Fiber-glass
Fiberglass
Fiberglass, glass-fiber reinforced plastic, is a fiber reinforced polymer made of
a plastic matrix reinforced by fine fibers of glass.
Chemical Components: The glass fibers are made of various types of glass
depending upon the fiber glass where have to use. These glasses all contain silica
or silicate, with varying amounts of oxides of calcium, magnesium, and sometimes
boron. To be used in fiberglass, glass fibers are made with very low levels of
defects.
Structural properties:
 Fiberglass is a lightweight, extremely strong, and robust
material.
 Although strength properties are somewhat lower than fiber
and it is less stiff, the material is typically far less brittle, and
the raw materials are much less expensive.
Fiberglass Fabric
Application: Fiberglass is an immensely versatile material due to
its light weight, inherent strength, weather-resistant finish and
variety of surface textures.

Fiber Glass History:
Glass fibers have been produced for centuries, but mass production of glass
strands was discovered in 1932 when “Games Slayter”, a researcher at Owens-
Illinois accidentally directed a jet of compressed air at a streamof molten glass
and produced fibers. A patent for this method of producing glass wool was first
applied for in 1933. Owens joined with the Corning company in 1935 and the
method was adapted by Owens Corning to produce it’s patented "fiber glass in
1936. Originally, fiber glass was a glass wool with fibers entrapping a great deal of
gas, making it useful as an insulator, especially at high temperatures.
My Concept in Fiber Glass:
This the Thing is clear that Using fiber glass and Compositeinstead of metal why
increase day by day? .Wehave to know why fiber Glass is used? I think the
Answer should be StructuralProperty and easy construction. Fiber Glass is Metter
of Stiffening the Composite Structure, The strength is depend on the tension of
the fiber glass. Another reason should be noted that long lasting and some other
properties like electrical and thermal insulator, Toughness, Elasticity make its best
choice to build a Structurein Fiber-glass Composite.
