Abstract
 The objective of the Eye Gaze communication system is use the eye
gaze of human for interaction with the computer. It will help the user
to operate the computer based system by giving commands with the
eyes.
 This system was developed for the people with complex physical
disabilities, who were unable to use their body parts. This system
improved the quality of life of these people.
 The main advantage of these system is that their is no need of
physical connection between the user and the system. And the user
can run the system with their eyes.
Introduction
 The Eye gaze is a communication & control system, we can run with
our own eyes. It is a direct-select vision controlled communication
system.
 It was first time introduced by Yarbus and known as Yarbus eye
tracker in the 1960.
 Eye tracking is a process of measuring the point of gaze(where one
is looking) or the motion of the eye relative to the head.
Users of Eye Gaze Communication
System
 This system is mainly developed for those who is physically disable
with their hands or voice.
 Its users are :
Adults and children with cerebral palsy , spinal cord injuries , brain

 Good control of one eye
 Adequate vision
 Ability to maintain a vision in front of the eye gaze mirror
 Mental ability :
1. Ability to read
2. Memory
Hardware Parts Required
Working
 A less than 15 second calibration procedure is required to set up the
system for a particular user looks at a small calibration point as it
moves around the system.
 A user operate the system by looking at rectangular “keys” or cells
that are displayed on the control screen. To “press” a key the user
looks at the key for a specified period of time.
 The gaze duration required to visually activate a key , typically about
½ seconds , can be adjusted by the user.
Configuration
Detail
 This system is
robust and extremely
easy to calibrate.
 This system uses
the Pupil – Center
/Corneal Reflection
method to determine
the eye’s gaze
direction.
A video camera is
located below the
computer screen
which is remotely
observes the
subject’s eye
Menu’s of Eye Gaze System
 The main appears on the
screen as soon as the user
completes its15 second
calibration procedure.
 It is the list of available in the
system. It contains –
 The Phase program

NEW PORTABLE EYE GAZE SYSTEMS
The Portable Eye gaze System can be mounted on a wheelchair and run from a 12-volt battery or
wall outlet .
It weighs only 6 lbs (2.7 kg) and its dimensions are 2.5"x8"x9" (6.5cm x20cm x23cm).
The Portable Eye gaze System comes with a flat screen monitor and a table mount for its monitor.
The monitor can be lifted off the table mount and slipped into a wheelchair mount.

System
ENVIRONMENT REQUIRED FOR AN
EYEGAZE SYSTEM
Because eye tracking is done using infrared light. Eye gaze system must take care of
light sources in the room in order to ensure the best accuracy. The Eye gaze System
must be operated in an environment where there is limited of ambient infrared light.
Common sources of infrared light are sunlight and incandescent light bulbs. The
System makes its predictions based on the assumption that the only source of
infrared light shining on the user's eye is coming from the center of the camera.
Therefore, stray sources of infrared may degrade the accuracy or prevent Eye gaze
operation altogether. The System works best away from windows, and in a room lit
with fluorescent or mercury-vapor lights, which are low in infrared.

THE EYEGAZE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
COMPONENTS &PRICES
Limitations
 The equipment is expensive.(Even Google, which has all the money in
the world, has only outfitted one of their many labs.)
 Some user can’t work with the equipment (for example if they wear
contact lenses or have long eye lashes.)
 Calibrating the equipment takes Time ; this problem may resultantly
cause the user to deviate from using the device.(Calibration is the
process in which the eye tracker camera measures characteristics of the
eye gaze direction)
 Requires Miniaturization(Miniaturization is the process of manufacture
small Mechanical, Optic and Electronic Products and
Devices.)Miniaturization not only increase Portability but improves
Energy efficiency by reducing the Power requirement of the Eye -Gaze
System .
CONCLUSION
From this seminar session of various paper we conclude that using
eye gaze as pointing tool to operate system is very useful .This
paper argue that it is achievable to use eye gaze of computer user
within interface to help management of application . As eye tracking
system improve in quality and accuracy and reduce in value , it will
grab attention of the user.

  • 20. ENVIRONMENT REQUIRED FOR AN EYEGAZE SYSTEM Because eye tracking is done using infrared light. Eye gaze system must take care of light sources in the room in order to ensure the best accuracy. The Eye gaze System must be operated in an environment where there is limited of ambient infrared light. Common sources of infrared light are sunlight and incandescent light bulbs. The System makes its predictions based on the assumption that the only source of infrared light shining on the user's eye is coming from the center of the camera. Therefore, stray sources of infrared may degrade the accuracy or prevent Eye gaze operation altogether. The System works best away from windows, and in a room lit with fluorescent or mercury-vapor lights, which are low in infrared.

  • 22. Limitations  The equipment is expensive.(Even Google, which has all the money in the world, has only outfitted one of their many labs.)  Some user can’t work with the equipment (for example if they wear contact lenses or have long eye lashes.)  Calibrating the equipment takes Time ; this problem may resultantly cause the user to deviate from using the device.(Calibration is the process in which the eye tracker camera measures characteristics of the eye gaze direction)  Requires Miniaturization(Miniaturization is the process of manufacture small Mechanical, Optic and Electronic Products and Devices.)Miniaturization not only increase Portability but improves Energy efficiency by reducing the Power requirement of the Eye -Gaze System .
  • 23. CONCLUSION From this seminar session of various paper we conclude that using eye gaze as pointing tool to operate system is very useful .This paper argue that it is achievable to use eye gaze of computer user within interface to help management of application . As eye tracking system improve in quality and accuracy and reduce in value , it will grab attention of the user.
