2. THE CLIENT
I did secondary client research on The BBC & BBC Three, I did research on The Northern Voices as well. The BBC is the national
broadcaster of the United Kingdom, the BBC is based in the UK, London. The BBC is the oldest broadcaster worldwide, it was founded
on the 18th October 1922 in London. BBC is a public corporation of the department of media, culture and sport. The main responsibility
of the BBC is to provide impartial public service broadcasting in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. The BBC has a portfolio of
television shows, 10 UK-wide radio stations, 2 national radio services in each Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and 39 local radio
stations across England and the Channel Islands. The BBC also has digital services which are ; BBC News, Sports , Weather CBBC
and CBeebies, iPlayer and BBC Sounds, BBC Red Button and their vast archive.
BBC is a service which is operated by the BBC, it was established on the 16th February 2016. It as launched as a servicer to replace
the BBC Three channel which closed down on the same day but then the channel was brought back on 1 February 2022. The BBC as a
whole don’t have a direct target audience but BBC Threes ideal target audience is 16-34 year olds, they aim towards that target
audience by starting the BBC Three at around 7pm and ends at 4am, this targets the students that have just finished schools and work.
From 7pm-9pm BBC Three is aimed towards the younger side of their target audience that have just finished school and college but
they have a watershed that begins at 9pm which aims towards the more older adults.
The Northern Voices is a scheme that is a partnership between BBC and BBC Three, this scheme is for exciting diverse writing talent
that is based in the North of England. There are 10 writers in the Northern Voices, they will undertake a 12month development
programme who are looking to expand their writing skills and to find a way into the writing environment. At the Northern Voices people
will be aspired to improve their writing skills and to develop their skills. The writers will create pieces of work which will then be shared
with the BBC and the audience.
4. AUDIENCE RESEARCH
The research that I did for my audience research is a questionnaire and a focus group, I did the
questionnaire first to get a better idea on what questions to ask the focus group, the focus group allowed
me to go more in detail about the target audience and their opinions etc surrounding social media.
Questionnaire – The questionnaire I did was aimed at more basic questions. About screen time and
social media apps, with the focus group I go into more detail
Focus Group – With the focus group, I asked a group of people who are within the target age bracket
questions that are specific and I personally asked for more specific answers and questions that would all
get a variety of different answers.
5. SUBJECT RESEARCH
For the subject research, I researched on the client and did a questionnaire (primary research) on the
subject matter. In the questionnaire I asked about the subject matter, which is social media and apps,
this helped me get a better idea on my target idea and what apps they use more and which ones they
use for entertainment and communications etc, this will apply to my documentary as I want to be as
realistic as possible when doing scenes that include acting and to ask the proper questions when
doing talking head shots. Before I did my
questionnaire I did my research online (secondary research), especially
with the topic of music, and specifically topics in social media and how
it affects the younger generation; identity, music, communication and
cancel culture, this allowed me to get a better idea of what questions
I wanted to ask to expand further on the subject and to get other opinions.
6. MY IDEA
I made lots of story boards to show my ideas, I made 2 story boards both similar but slightly different,
I have chosen one to follow as it is very directed to the target audience. I didn’t want there to be too
much sound and music and wanted it to be very real and down to earth, I wants people to have a
better understanding and get top know the people I was interviewing and to achieve that I wanted to
have the real sound and only used a camera and a microphone. I think my project and documentary
will have a USP (Unique Selling Point) as it is very down to earth and isn’t a lot like others may go
for. I think my documentary is right for my clients needs as it has different people who are within the
ages and people they can relate to.
7. SHOOTING SCHEDULE
- Starting shooting the interviews on the 1st May 2023 with Lydia Horabin, Sean Marshall and
Nathan Atkinson
- I finished shooting all of the footage of me speaking and explaining evryu role that media has
had an impact on the youth culture
8. QUESTIONS/FEEDBACK
From this feedback, I know that ,my pitch
could've had more detail but it hits allot of the
general points, I have shown how much research
ahs went into this project and the inspirations I
had. I know next time to include a more detailed
pitch explaining a lot while not keeping it too
much to read etc. I now know that I have the
general idea down and I have good ideas and
points but I need to explain that better in my pitch
so the audience have a better and easier
understanding.
