2. Aims of this project
•You should be able to define poverty.
•You should be able to critically think about the causes and solutions of poverty.
•You should be able to use creative thought process.
Instructions
•Write neat and legible.
•Your explanations should be in paragraphs.
• Work in groups and be corporative.
•Your final project should have table of content, group name and names of
all group members.
•Specify who was doing which task
•No late submission would be accepted.
3. Do this in groups
In this project, you are going to imagine your class has been elected by a Minister
of finance in your province to critical evaluate the success and mistakes of the government’s
efforts to alleviate poverty in South Africa.
Consider the following questions:
•The poverty problem in your province.
•The causes of this problem.
•Possible solutions to this problem.
•The amount of money to be budgeted for in order that you can put your action plans into
• motion.
4. Part 1 (30 marks)
•Select six poverty problems in your province.
•Explain the causes of these problems in your province.
•What are possible solutions that can also help government to put
more effort on alleviating poverty in South Africa?
•Conduct budget to help the Minister of finance about the money
that needs to be budgeted for your province to get education in
order to alleviate poverty in the next coming years.
5. Project monitoring
Progress will be monitored throughout the project as your group
needs to give feedback to the class according to the project
requirements.
The following reports must be done:
1st report: The poverty problems you found in your province.
2nd report: Report the solutions of the research in a class
Feedback report.
3rd report: Design a budget that you can put on your action plans
into motion.
6. Part 2 (20 marks)
In conclusion, write at least three to four paragraphs explaining
what you can generate to alleviate the poverty conditions of
people in your neighbourhood.
NB. After explanation you’re required to at least provide one
paragraph in reflection on what you have learned and the
challenges you have faced in doing the portfolio/project.
