In 2018 new MQ staff will complete the HDR Supervision Orientation 2018 through a self-paced online
Module in iLearn (6.5 hours).
To meet the learning outcomes participants will:
1. Engage with strategy and governance at MQ
2. Reflect on, and plan to gain recognition of, HDR Supervision practices
3. Engage with people and communities who support HDR Supervision at MQ
4. Understand the mandatory HDR Supervision and Cultural Safety Module
5. Think through an HDR Supervision problem
6. Demonstrate candidature management planning
7. Complete a digital profile
Experienced Supervisors may be able to complete some activities through pre-existing evidence.
All newly appointed Adjunct Supervisors must complete Learning Outcomes 1 & 3.

May 2018: a new approach to developing good practice in HDR Supervision
at MQ is being introduced. This new approach focuses on providing strong
support for early career supervisors, and providing reward and
recognition for all HDR Supervisors, through an HDR Fellowship Program.

MQSR (disestablished) – NEW: Alignment with the introduction of MQ data-management
via the Research Hub PURE will replace MQSR (PURE Implementation Team)
*Must be able to provide ‘continuity of
supervision’. Discretion exists for
Faculty to determine how to achieve
‘continuity of supervision’. In most
instances, this may be achieved by
appointing a Principal Supervisor who
is on a contract of 3 years or more.
***Is not a current Macquarie University
staff member.
**Is employed on a minimum of a 12-
month contract for the duration of the
appointment. Holds a qualification at or
above Master of Research or

‘continuity of supervision’ affords greater opportunities and scope for ECR to develop deeper and more formally engagement(s) with MQ HDR Supervision. Additionally, category of Masters research Supervisor also provides increased scope, engagement and recognition of effort/practice.
