3. DEFINITION:
Wind energy is a renewable
energy source that uses wind
power to generate electricity. The
primary means to obtain it are the
turbines, "windmills“.

4. Types of Wind Turbines and
Looking Ahead:
Horizontal Axis Turbines :
- Blades like airplane propellers.
- The taller and bigger turbines generate
more energy.

Vertical Axis Wind Trubines:
- Similiar to an egg beater
- Blades attached to the bottom and top
of the vertical rotor
- Most common one is the Darrieus
Wind Turbine
- Named after its French engineer
George Darrieus
- Not commonly used since doesn't
generate as much energy as the HAWT

6. • Currently Morocco has a wind farm in Tarfaya and it is
the biggest one in Africa;
• Spread over an area of 8,900 hectares, Tarfaya wind
farm consists of 131 wind turbines;
• The construction started January 2013 and ended June
2014;
• It is expected to produce 900,000 tons of CO2 emission
(which is the production of gas) per year which is the
equivalent to 150 million trees;
• Although we can’t measure a ton of CO2 since it is a
gas, we can put it into perspective. It is enough to light
up 1.5 million houses without any difficulties.

• Since the energy comes from a free
natural source, air, the energy is not
harmful to the environment like fossil
would;
• When generating energy using fossil
there is a lot that goes into it when it is
being changed into electricity;
• It is also a renewable source ( the air
that came out of the mills can be used
again and again).

9. The Disadvantages of Wind
Energy:
- Noise disturbances;
- Threat to Wildlife: both on birds
and underground habitat. Even the
size of the construction is harmful;
- Unpredicted Wind: if the area is not
throughly examined before building
the wind power farms, the comapny
can lose lots of money. Minimal wind
against urricanes and turnadoes.
