2. 1990’s
• 1991 – Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
• Samuel Bayer (the director) believed he was hired because his test-reel was
so poor the band anticipated his production would be “punk” and “not
corporate”. The video shows a school concert which ends in anarchy and a
riot. The video ends with the school kids breaking the set.
• 1996 - Spice Girls - Wannabe
• The video was filmed as one shot this means there were no cuts they were
rehearsing all night it was just cold and the camera work was trying to
show the madness of the Spice Girls. The video was most played with in 2
hours of its realise. They were asked to re- film it for the US but the girls
refused.
3. 2002
• 2002 – Coldplay – The Scientist
• The video was famous for the reverse narrative which had been used
before in Spike Jonze's 1996 music video for The Pharcyde's. It win an
award in 2003 for Best Group Video.
4. 2012
• 2012 – Fun – We are young
• The video shows a bar fight in slow motion. Monáe's role in the video
was described as being the eye of the storm. As their performance
becomes more intense and energetic as the video progresses. The
video concludes with Fun ending their performance as the girl from
the beginning of the video walks out of the bar smiling.
