What do you remember most about Martial Law in the 70’s?
The following are my family’s responses that has been transcribed and translated into English
language:
My Lolo:
Martial Law days was a nightmare for all the enemies of the nation but for the law
abiding citizens it was a very blissful life and generally a golden era for the Philippines. The
Filipino Ideology was being taught for the youths of that generation, “Isang Bansa, Isang
Diwa” were the battle cry. Sad to say, the youths now are being blinded by a Fake Martial
Law history, selective on abuses and killings of the enemies of the nation.
My Tita:
I was in my elementary years. I feel safe and protected. The cost of living was cheap.
Families live a simple and basic life. Public education was way better then like with
prestigious private schools. Patriotism and discipline was instilled in the youth. I am proud to
be part of the Marcos era and its development.
My Tita:
I remember is, i can go and walk everywhere safety, have peace of minds, no pressure in life
and priceless commodities, at there’s a lot of free foods in some school.
My Mother:
It was the most peaceful time in my life. Many projects were done for the benefit of
the masses. Marcos political enemy hate Martial Law because they could not make so much
money. People were so disciplined, no drug addicts, no rapes no hold ups, no criminality.
Jeepney fare was only .25 cents, rice was 2.75 and you can buy galunggong at .20 cents. Only
President Marcos can do such a feat.
