Evaluation Question 4: How did you
use new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
2. Ways of research
- We gained ideas through watched a number of different trailers and
Swedes on YouTube, this was beneficial as we found different codes
and conventions and types of things we could use for film
We gained ideas for Movie Posters and Magazine Covers through
looking on a number of websites, such as: www.pastemagazine.com and
http://www.creativebloq.com/movies these were good to use as it gave
us a wide range of ideas we could take ideas from and offered a range
of different posters, so we could find ways to make our posters look
different
We also used the film education website in order to further expand our
knowledge on genres, this was key as it let us know what types of things
we could include to establish our film as a subgenre of thriller and teen
drama
We also watched videos of using Final Cut Pro, so that we would be
more used to using it when it came to editing our trailer and would be
able to do more enhanced things with our editing, so overall our trailer
would be better
We collected all the information we found through research and placed it
on Mahara, this was good as it helped to keep our work together and it
allowed us to continue doing our work constantly so we never fell behind
and we always new what we were doing next
3. Planning
We planned out a number of things, such as:
Making a storyboard on Amazon Storyteller and then uploaded that to
YouTube to gain feedback, these were both helpful as it allowed us to
show people the idea of our film and gain feedback so we knew if there
was anything we needed to change and ways to improve it even
further
We also created our own call sheets and risk assessment using
Microsoft Word before putting it onto Google Docs, these were good to
use as it meant we knew what shots we wanted to take and the
location of the shots too, so we knew where to go to take those shots,
plus the risk assessment was key as it stopped people getting injured
and also made sure everyone stayed focused and worked hard to get
the shots we wanted to take
We used Pinterest to create our mood board and also to create our
pitch for our film, this was important as established a number of things
for our films, such as outlining the genre and the storyline, so what the
film was about
We also used Moodle to gain information on for different tasks we
completed , so this was good as it meant we kept on working and
never went off task, so we could complete all the work quicker and to a
4. Construction
We used the canon EDS DSLR 550D digital camera to film our
trailer , I enjoyed using this camera as it allowed as to get a
number of shots we wanted and was much more advanced
compared to the camera we used last year
We edited our trailer by using Final Cut Pro, this helped as we
could add a number of effects to improve our trailer, such as
changing the colour of the shots, chnaging the speed and
duration of shots and adding in things like jump cuts, also here
we added our tittles and we were able to put everything
together here, by adding in things like the sound, montage and
company ident to the trailer that were already there
To create our film poster and Magazine cover we used both
Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, these were good to use as
they both in completing our final poster and cover, as we could
do things like adding the effects to create the type of poster
which we decided we wanted to make
We got the sound for trailer by using GarageBand and through
using Freesound.com , this is important as sound is a very
important thing to a trailer, espcially ours as for the montage it
made it seem more realistic and also things like the music we
5. Evaluation
For Question 1 I decided to create two different things
to answer the questions, firstly I created a YouTube
video with annotations to explain how our trailer used
or went against codes and conventions, I did this as I
thought that it was easier to show by comparing the
two clips by playing one after another so the reader
can clearly see what I am trying to explain. For the
second part of that question I used a PowerPoint to
explain who we sued or went against codes and
conventions for our movie poster and magazine
cover, as I thought using still images would benefit the
reader and they can easily compare our to the others
and clearly see what I am talking about and
thoroughly the similarities and differences that there
6. Evaluation
I decided to create a Prezi for Question 2, where I talked
about how our main products and ancillary texts are
effective, I did this as I thought it was a another good way
to present my work and it was easily to change the look of
the Prezi and was also easy to add in many images and
videos, so it was much more visual.
For question 3 I once again decided to use a Prezi to
present my work discussing audience feedback and once
again I could easily add images and videos to help
become more visual and less tedious to read. And I just
enjoyed presenting it like this as it’s easy for the reader to
read and understand.
And finally for this question, question 4 I decided to do a
PowerPoint once again, as I thought it would be beneficial
and this question I thought required a lot more analysis
and explain, so I thought doing a PowerPoint like this
would be suited for that, plus I have changed the them
compared to the last PowerPoint and added in different
images to make it different.
