● Avoid premade templates that are overused
● Use keywords and important skills first in your resume
● Make sure your resume is easy to read and flows neatly

● Never trust spell check on your resume (phone numbers and emails
especially)
● Fill gaps between employment with volunteer work or explain what was
done during the gaps
● A good resume will only get you an interview, be prepared to explain your
resume
6. Common errors to avoid
● Excessive white space or gaps looks bad on a resume
● Never lie or over exaggerate on your resume
● If you put something on your resume be prepared to explain if questioned
7. Things to remember
● Resumes are not business cards, leave them at home during networking
events
● Handwritten notes after an interview will show initiative for employment
● Resumes can be an invaluable tool if created correctly
