What is Publish or Perish?
• Publish or Perish is a free software program which helps
researchers promote their research impact
• It uses data from Google Scholar
• It provides citation metrics and statistics such as:
• Total number of papers, citations and selected metrics
• Average number of citations per paper, or author
• Hirsch’s h-index, Egghe's g-index and more …

• Download and install Publish or Perish
• Search for author impact
• Save results as CSV file (PoPCites) - results open in Excel

Citation metrics – Hirsch’s h-index
• Means of quantifying impact and productivity of a scientist
• Calculated on the number and impact of publications
• An h-index of 10 means that a researcher has published
10 papers that have at least 10 citations each
• The h-index of an author will be different depending on
which tool is used, as it needs to include the publications
of the author and the cites of each paper
• Egghe’s g-index takes into account a researcher’s highly
cited papers
