2. Riverdale
How are teenagers represented?
In Riverdale, there can be moments were they are stereotypical. For
example: There’s a mean girl, jocks, gangs. However, how they act is more
realistic. They have friendship groups like people do.
Cheryl – Cheryl is quite a stereotypical character. She is the mean girl and
she rules the school. She has always got what she wanted until she found
out her parents ere murderers. She’s now friends with Morgan who is part
of the South Side Serpents, the gang of the South Side. They are perceived
as a violent crew and to the North Side, they are seen as very dangerous.
3. Pretty Little Liars
How are teenagers represented?
In Pretty Little Liars, there is a friendship group of teenage
girls they are presented s always having to look perfect in
everyway with layers of makeup. They are shown as
mischievous and backstabbing which is a stereotype of
teenage girls. In the first episode, it shows one of the girls
being rebellious and shoplifting. There’s also a girl who is
going out with her teacher and went against her parents.
These are the type of things teens are stereotyped about.
4. Vampire Diaries
How are teenagers represented?
In Vampire Diaries, the teens aren’t very realistic as
they kill people although that could be seen as a
stereotype of teens being violent. The rest of the
series isn’t realistic or stereotypical because it
involves turning into vampires and witches. There is
sexual content which some people will believe all
teens are like.
5. Insatiable
How are teenagers represented?
In Insatiable, it shows a teens transformation from being fat to
becoming skinny and pretty. This can be seen as being
stereotypical because a teenage girl wants to be pretty with
lots of makeup and losing weight. The programme also
features the teenage girl getting revenge by being violent and
also entering a beauty pageant. In one of the episodes, it
shows them taking drugs and under aged sex which is also a
stereotype of teens
6. On My Block
How are teenagers represented?
Teenagers are represented as being violent and in
gangs. This is stereotyping teens as to what people
older than them think. Older people see these kind of
programmes and assume that this is how all teens are.
There is also sexual content and under age drinking.
