This document discusses the role of media in constructing collective identity, specifically among teenagers. It analyzes two media texts - the British TV series "Misfits" and the 2009 film "Fish Tank" - to explore how teenagers are portrayed. In both, teenagers are shown engaging in stereotypical anti-social behaviors like crime, drugs, drinking, and sex. Historically, other shows like "Skins" and "Dawson's Creek" portrayed similar depictions of troubled youth. The document argues that media often presents only the negative aspects of teen culture to lead audiences to believe all teenagers behave badly, rather than showing positive representations as well.
