3. Functions of Communication
According to Griffin,(2010), communication
functions refer to how people use language for
different purposes. Relative to this, there is a
need to identify these major functions in order
to know how to use them in various time, place
and situations.
5. Regulation/Control
This is used in order to literally
regulate or control the behavior of
people. It is also utilizes to regulate
the nature and number of activities
that people engage in.
Ex. : Take your
medicine 3x a day
6. Social Interaction
THE FUNCTION IS TO MAKE SOCIAL
RELATIONSHIPS. SOCIAL INTERACTION IS ALSO
USED TO FORM AND MAINTAIN BONDS,
INTIMACY, RELATIONS AND CONNECTIONS OR
ASSOCIATION WITH OTHERS.
THEY RELATE EXPERIENCES,
BEHAVIOR, DECISIONS, AND
OPINIONS AS A
FOUNDATION FOR THEM TO
CREATE AND SUSTAIN
RELATIONSHIP.
EX.: WOULD YOU LIKE SOME COFFEE, TEA OR ME?
LET’S GO OUT TO HAVE SOME COFFEE.
8. Motivation
This refers to the use of
language by a person to
express aspirations, desires,
needs and wants, likes and
dislikes. It is also used to
power or build up preferences,
decisions, goals and strengths.
Ex.: I need to use the
bathroom
Someday I will be a
millionaire
9. Information Dissemination
Information exchange is
considered to be the most
basic function of
communication. It is a way
to share information or data
in order to educate
Ex.: Calaca is now a
component city
known as City of
Calaca.
