An Interactive Website for 4-10 year olds
To encourage children aged 4yrs-10years to:

• To wash their hands regularly.

• To educate the children on health and
    cleanliness
 By showing fun educational movies which
    motivate the child towards cleanliness

 Fun quizzes which educate the child.

 Through theses activities the child begins to
    associates being clean with winning.
(This is based on classical conditioning)
For the purpose of this exercise the task we
                 will look at

        Doing a Quiz
•Poor contrast- hard to focus.

•Colours not strong enough

•Design too busy- not simple
 enough

•Main Icons too large

•Fonts not uniform.

•No interaction

•Design not consistent with
 other children’s sites
•Good contrast

•Primary colours –suitable for
 age group

•Design more simple and
 intuitive

•Main icons clear obvious

•Uniform fonts throughout.

•Interaction audio and visual

•Design consistent with
 other children’s sites
 Place the user in Control

1. Mula interacts with the user intelligently, offering choices,
      reading the users mind.
2. User can freely move around the site
3. We have allowed for children who can’t read yet with audio.
4. We have separated the more complex content into the
      grownups section.
 Reduce the users Memory Load

1. The quiz is kept simple one page to each piece of content.
Disclosing information at a slow pace.
2. Short cuts are simple and intuitive
3. The final system will include flashing icons on delayed
      reaction.
4. No time limit on doing the quiz.
5. The arrows and the tick symbols are all familiar symbols.
 Keep the interface Consistent

1. The site is consistent with other sites –

 main tabs running across the top of the site,
 login on the right hand side,
 use of mouse to interact.
Nielson would like this site because

 Visibility – current score remains visible, equally at any point
the user can check their score, how many movies they
    watched etc.
 Users language The language used is at the users level
 User in control Users can move from any page to any page
 Consistency The site is consistent with other children’s sites.
    And web design in general.
 Recognition rather than recall. The site is intuitive
 Flexibility . The user has free movement around the site
    including undo, back and forward.
 Minimal design. The design is simple colourful with good use
    of space and contrast.
 Helpful – Mula is very helpful and considerate with his advice.

                                                    Nielson (1994)
Sommerville would like this site because

 User Familiarity –The system is designed for the age group 4-
    10yr olds
 It is consistent to other sites they might be using.
 There is minimal surprise.
 We have included facilities for the user to recover passwords
and review and change their minds during quizzes.
 Mula is always at hand to guide the user through difficult
    sequences
 The site is diverse as it is designed for the child and the
parent featuring a grown up section

                                                 Sommerville (2004)
 Testing is vital as at this point where change
    is easy
 May need proof of concept for funding
 We mainly test to uncover errors and to
    ensure that the design is:
                1. Correct
                2. Complete
                3. Secure
                4. High quality
 The programmer has his own perspective and
    he is not infallible.
 Needs to include others view particularly the
    end user and related users.
 The contribution and feedback can be
    invaluable and should be encouraged
 Add sound clicks to the quiz when the child is answering
    questions etc
 Add voice instruction from Mula – helpful hints – Watch a
movie, Do a quiz, Check your score.
 Back and forward arrows to be added to each page on the
    quiz broadening navigation
 A tick symbol to be added to the quiz page
 To include the question on the answers page of quiz
 A link to Face book and Twitter
Before After
Before After
Before After
 How important research and development is.
 Good feedback
 A chat room for kids to encourage world wide
    communication
 An interactive clean game were they go
through a typical day making choices
 The children could interact with Mula asking
    him questions
 When quiz is complete Mula could explain
    were they went wrong
