2. Photograph Selection
Image 1
Although conforming to the
direct address conventions
this image was not suitable
for the front cover as the
models elbows are cut off
at the sides of the image
and there's not enough
room above for a suitable
masthead. To the sides
there is also not enough
room for sell lines and
other images as well as the
model not being
completely central to the
camera creating a leaning
effect.
Image 2
This image was a
suitable candidate for
use on my front cover as
it provided suitable mast
head and sell line space
however the pose
seemed too generic and
lacked a high fashion
appeal for my target
audience. The lighting
also created harsh
shadowing at the bottom
of the image which was
not consistent with my
earlier design layout
features.
3. Continued
Image 3
This image was my second choice
for the main cover photo as the high
key lighting on the face shows all the
models features clearly, allowing her
to become the main focal point due
to her middle positioning and direct
address. The models vivid makeup
colour, such as her red lipstick and
slight reflection of light around the
eyes also draws the audience eye,
creating an effective connection with
my chosen target consumers. This
image however was not selected as
my final cover image because of
harsh shadowing in the background
and high key lighting directed from
the right hand side juxtaposing the
light on the left, making one side of
the models face appear brighter than
Image 4
This image was not included
in my final cover image due
to the models feet being cut
off at the bottom of the
image, the harsh shadowing
due to high key lighting
shone from above which
illuminated the face of the
model but was not
consistent lighting the entire
image gave it an almost
grey filter , not suitable for a
high fashion magazine
unless I was to make the
image purely black and
white, however this design
feature and use of lighting
was not consistent with my
previous planned design.
4. Final Selected Image
Image 5
I have selected this image as it is consistent with the design
features of my previous design layout inspired by Fashion
magazine, with influence from Vogue and Teen vogue
contributions to allow a high fashion appeal. There is enough
room to all sides of the image for all my sell lines and
masthead above. The lighting is slightly low key, however I
will edit this carefully in Adobe photoshop so as to highlight
the models block coloured costume. The dark colours
incorporated on her top and jeans are meant to juxtapose the
white background in order to establish her as being the main
focal point of the image, however her middle positioning, full
body incorporation and direct address already connects well
with my target audience, her hands re positioned to frame her
facial expression drawing key focus to the models face, hair
and body language. Overall this image conforms to many
cover photo codes and conventions making it an ideal choice
for my front cover.
