1. Props & Costumes
James - Props
Car- Peugeot 106 – this is a typical first car for a teenage boy,
it shows him as the average guy so many teenagers can relate
to him.
Mobile phone – Samsung – an up to date mobile phone,
shows this film is set in modern times. This is a common
phone which is also indicates his average status in life.
James - Costume
- Casual jeans – jeans are very common amongst teenagers,
this keeps him neutral.
- Casual plimsolls – these are very popular at the moment,
and are casual and comfy as this is just a normal day for
this character.
- Plain blue t-shirt – blue represents his gender; many
associate this colour with boys. A plain top keeps him
neutral and average, and allows the majority of teenage
boys to relate to him. We do not want to target a
stereotype, just the male gender as a whole.
- Black Jacket – we have added a black jacket, as it is clear it
is winter from the scenery, and also the black connotes
death which forebodes what is to happen in the film.
Ben - Costume
- Aston Rowant school uniform – this colour connotes danger and warning.
This is perfect for us to get this message across to the younger audience. This
uniform will represent his stage in life and target all children in the same
situation.
2. Ben - Props
- Football – this is a very popular sport for young boys, so this represents
all the innocent, average young boys just like this character. This will
grab their attention as they will be able to relate to this young boy, and
will make them aware.
- Rucksack – this is typical style that most children have for carrying
their books. This reinforces the portrayal of his school stage.
Carol- Costume
- Apron – we decided to not include the apron as it is unnecessary and
unimportant.
- Floral dress – this really emphasises the feminine side of most
mothers.
Carol - Props
- Picture frame of Jak – this identifies who her son his and represents their close relationship
and her love for her son, it creates a sad and intimate moment.
- Dinner set – cups, plates (food), cutlery, salt and pepper. This is the typical routine of family
meals which is corrupted by the tragedy. It is an insight on a typical moment in their family
lifestyle, but shows the two different atmospheres of before and after the incident.
3. Police officers - Costume
- Hats – this is a typical and well known element of police uniforms. It gives them power and
status, and we want to create the same appearance and manner.
- Black shoes
- Black trousers
- White shirt
- Back tie – these items of clothing put together, creates a smart and well kept appearance,
which is important for the general view that society has of police officers. There is also specific
differences in uniform for both genders, i.e. hat, tie.
