[PANNING MOVEMENT OF THE CAR DRIVING PAST] [DIEGETIC MUSIC FROM STEREO STARTS FROM BEGINNING OF FOOTAGE - FOREVER YOUNG – JAY-Z & MR. HUDSON] (1) - Ben is introduced walking down the path, bouncing his ball. [LONG SHOT OF BEN AS HE WALKS TOWARDS CAMERA] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = QUIETER] (1) - James continues to drive down the road. [CLOSE UP SHOT OF JAMES, POSITIONED AT AN ANGLE BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER] (1) - James receives a text. [HIGH ANGLE, CLOSE UP SHOT OF THE PHONE] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER] [DIEGETIC SOUND OF MESSAGE TONE] (1) - James looks down at phone. [LOW ANGLE, CLOSE UP OF JAMES] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER] (1) - Ben begins to cross the road, bouncing his ball. [MID SHOT OF BEN, SLIGHT TRACKING MOVEMENT AS HE STEPS OFF THE PAVEMENT] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = QUIETER] [ENHANCED DIEGETIC SOUND OF THE BALL HITTING THE GROUND] (1) - Ben crosses the road, bouncing his ball. [LOW LEVEL, LONG SHOT OF BEN] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = QUIETER] [ENHANCED DIEGETIC SOUND OF THE BALL HITTING THE GROUND] (1) - James drives along, reading text, he looks up and notices Ben and begins to break. [CLOSE UP SHOT OF JAMES, POSITIONED AT AN ANGLE BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER] (1) - James slams his foot on the brake. [HIGH ANGLE, CLOSE UP SHOT OF FEET ON THE BRAKE] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER] [ENHANCED DIEGETIC SOUND OF FEET HITTING PEDALS]
  2. 2. (1) - Ben drops the ball and braces himself as the car comes towards him. The car comes into the shot and skids as he hits Ben. [LOW LEVEL, LONG SHOT OF THE COLLISION, LEADING TO A SLOW ZOOM OF THE BRAKING WHEEL] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = QUIETER] [DIEGETIC MUSIC SLOWS DOWN WITH THE ACTION, ENHANCED DIEGTIC SOUND OF THE CAR SKIDDING] Split second freeze frame leading to a visual rewind of all previous actions. [NON-DIEGETIC SOUND ADDED OF THE REWIND – ORIGINAL SOUND OF A TAPE BEING REWOUND] Outcome (2) - James is driving down the road. [LOW LEVEL SHOT OF CAR WHEEL COMING INTO VISION] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER] (2) - James picks up his phone at the side of the road. [OVER SHOULDER SHOT OF JAMES PICKING UP PHONE] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER]
  3. 3. (2) - Ben steps off the path. [LOW LEVEL SHOT OF BEN’S FEET] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = QUIETER] (2) - James reads the text as Ben crosses the road safely in front of him. [OVER SHOULDER SHOT OF JAMES] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER] (2) - James texts back at the side of the road. [MID SHOT OF JAMES, SIDE ON] [DIEGETIC MUSIC = LOUDER] Screen fades to black. [DIEGETIC MUSIC FADES OUT ALONG WITH IMAGE] (2) - Ben walking home. [LOW LEVEL, CLOSE UP SHOT OF BEN’S FEET. TRACKING HIS MOVEMENT] [NON-DIEGETIC MUSIC BEGINS TO PLAY: ERIC CLAPTON – TEARS IN HEAVEN] (1) - Police officers walking to Ben’s house. [LOW LEVEL, CLOSE UP SHOT OF THE OFFICERS FEET. TRACKING THEIR MOVEMENT] (2) - Ben continues to walk home. [LOW LEVEL, CLOSE UP SHOT OF BEN’S FEET. TRACKING HIS MOVEMENT] (1) - Police officers continue to walk to Ben’s house. [LOW LEVEL, CLOSE UP SHOT OF THE OFFICERS FEET. TRACKING THEIR MOVEMENT] (2) - Ben walking across his drive. [MID SHOT OF BEN, TRACKING HIM FROM BEHIND] (1) - Officers walking across Ben’s drive. [MID SHOT OF OFFICERS, TRACKING THEM FROM BEHIND] (2) - Ben approaching the front door. [MID SHOT OF BEN, TRACKING HIM FROM BEHIND] (2) - Ben knocking on the door. [STATIC, MID SHOT OF BEN AND CAROL] (1) - Carol opening the door to the officer, they walk past her into the house, Carol closes the door behind them. [STATIC, MID SHOT OF THE OFFICERS AND CAROL AT A SLIGHTLY LOWER ANGLE] (2) - Police officers and Carol seated in the living room as they explain what has happened to her son. Carol drops her head into her hands and begins to walk over to the unit. [WIDE, ESTABLISHING SHOT OF LIVING ROOM] (2) - Carol approaches a photo of Ben, picks it up and turns away. [SLIGHT HIGH ANGLE, MID SHOT OF CAROL] (2) - Carol walks back to the sofa with the photo and sits down as the police officers begin to leave. [MID SHOT OF CAROL, TRACKING BACKWARDS FROM IN FRONT OF HER. CAMERA TAKES A STATIC POSITION AT A WIDE ANGLE] (2) - Officers walk out, leaving Carol alone. [STATIC, LONG SHOT OF OFFICERS LEAVING] (2) - Carol stares at the photo of Ben. [EXTREME HIGH ANGLE, CLOSE UP SHOT OF THE PHOTO FROM ABOVE CAROL] Visual fade from one scene to the next. (1) - Ben and Carol sat at the dinner table, eating. [MID SHOT OF BEN AND CAROL, CAMERA BEGINS A 180* DOLLY ROUND THE TABLE, SLIGHT ZOOM IN AT 90*, LEADING TO A ZOOM OUT AS THE DOLLY CONTINUES] revealing that Ben is no longer at the table and Carol has her head in her hands. [SHOT REMAINS STATIC] (2) - Carol sits alone at the table with her head in her hands. [MID SHOT OF CAROL, STATIC FROM OUTSIDE THE WINDOW] (2) - Carol sits alone at the table with her head in her hands.
