otherhand,quantitativeresearchmethodwillalsobeanalyzedcritically.Theanalysiswillbe
ableabletopresentaperceptiononqualitativeresearch,comingfromtheviewsandperspectivesof
differentauthors,includingtheintentionofprovidinganoversight,alongsideanin-depth
understandinginvolvedinqualitativeresearch.

Ingeneralterms,researchreferstotheprocessinvolvedinseekingknowledge.Fumell,(2012),
referredtoresearchasasystematicorscientificsearchforinformationregardingaspecific
subjectorissue.Researchreferstoanartinvolvedininvestigationwherethepeoplemove
comingfromtheknowntowhatisunknown,withanefforttodiscovertheunknown,inorderto
makeitknown.Themoveinvolvingresearchstemsfrom theinquisitivenesswhichiscommon
amongpeople.Thisinnateinquisitivenessdrivespeopletodiscoveringtheunknown,or
clarifyingwhatisalreadyconsideredasknown(Trowell,2011).Theacademicworldalready
prpresented an increasing need forqualitativeresearch,even in locationswherethereis
dominanceinquantitativeresearch.Recently,thereisanincreasedinterestonthefieldof
qualitativeresearchfromacademicandorganizationalinstitutions.Ontopofthat,researchand
policyoninterventionhavefurtherincreasedtheirinteresttowardsidentifyingtheperspective

ofpeopleembracingqualitativeresearch.Ourmodernworldisalsogoingthroughrapid
changesinthesocialstructure.Asaresult,worldsbecomediversified,evenmakingitmore
challengingtosocialresearcherswithnewcontextsandperspectives.Thesehavebecome
relativelymodernthattheso-calledtraditionalmethodologiesinvolvedindeductionhave
furtherfailedduetothedifferentiationofobjects.Thesemethodsincludedhypothesesfrom
modelsandderivingresearchquestionswhicharetheoretical,testingtheminoppositionto
thecurrentlyprovidedempiricalevidence.Thus,qualitativeresearchhasgatheredmomentum
rapidlyintermsofdrapidlyintermsofdevelopmentinthemodernworldofresearch.Thisdissertationwillfocus
onthedifferenttrendsexistinginthefieldofqualitativeresearch.

Aqualitativeresearchisdesignedtoprovidecomplexdescriptionoftheexperiencesof
differentpeopleregardingaspecifictopic.Thisresearchoffersinformationregardingtheway
peopleperceiveacertainissueinwhichtheresearchtopichasintroduced.Thisperception
alsoinvolvestheiremotions,beliefs,relationships,opinions,aswellasthedifferentbehaviors.
Asidefromthese,qualitativemethodsforresearchalsohelpinidentifyingthosefactorswhich
werepreviouslyindefinablesuchasgenderroles,ethnicity,socio-economic,religion,aswellas
socialnormsandstatus.Thesefactorsusuallydonothaveanapparentroleinvolvedinthe
researesearchissue(Kyle,2010).Thesequalitativemethodsmayalsobeusedalongside
quantitativemethodsinordertoofferabetterunderstandingandinterpretationonthe
intricaterealityofaspecificsituation.Itisalsotheroleofaqualityqualitativeresearchin
ordertogainacomplexandcarefullythoughtofunderstandingofthespecificsocialcontext.
Kyle(2010)notedfurtherthatqualitativeresearchoffersawaytounderstandtheworld,and
doesnotneedtotestanyformofhypotheses.Also,itdoesnotbelievethatdifferentresearch

Kyle(2010)alsonotedthatagoodqualitativeresearchalsoservesthepurposeofenhancing
aspecificsocialcircumstance.Aswithanycircumstance,thefindingsinvolvedinqualitative
researchneedstohelpinimprovingthesituationwhichisundertheinvestigation.Thismaybe
achievedbytheresearcherswhoarelookingtogetanswerstothedifferentanswersinthereal
world.Theygatherwhattheyhear,readorseefromplaces,events,peopleandactivities
(Trowell,2011).Unlikelaboratoryexperiments,qualitativeresearchisusuallydoneinanatural
settingwherearesearcherengageswiththosewhoparticipateintheresearch.Asresearchis
beingcarriedout,thepurposeofthebeingcarriedout,thepurposeoftheresearcheristoacquireknowledgeregardingsome
aspectofthesocialworld,thusproducingnewformsofunderstanding.Then,researchers
growaspartoftheprocess,continuallymakingchoicesaswellastestassumptionsinorder
toreshapetheirquestions.
