2. BACKGROUND
• Christian Student Fellowship (CSF) is a non-denominational
campus ministry at the University of Kentucky. They are a non-
profit organization.
• CSF was founded in 1958 and has continued to grow
exponentially since then.
• They started with a few college students that wanted to get
together to talk about Jesus and then spread to become a
whole community of people.
3. THEIR MISSION
• The mission of CSF is to meet students’ spiritual needs through
leadership, small groups, parties/events, and weekly services. CSF is
not just a building, but people that connect and serve with one
another.
4. LOCATION
• CSF is located on the corner of
Columbia Ave and Woodland Ave,
near the Willy T Young Library.
502 Columbia Ave
Lexington, KY 40508
5. WHY I CHOSE THIS ORGANIZATION
• I chose this organization because I will be going on staff at CSF
this next year. After graduation, I will become a staff member
and give back to the organization that gave so much to me. Not
only were they a home to me, but they also use many forms of
media, old and new, in lots of different ways.
6. NEW MEDIA TOOLS: FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM,
TWITTER
• CSF uses many forms of new media to spread information.
• For events and as a means of communication between staff,
students, and the public, CSF uses Social Media such as Facebook,
Instagram, and Twitter. They understand that students are best met
online and in social forums, so that is where they spread the word
and exchange information. Before social media, students were
encountered in relationships and by word of mouth.

7. NEW MEDIA TOOLS: EMAIL & TEXT
• CSF uses emails and text messages to connect with students and
inform them of what’s happening each week. At each event, there are
possibilities for students to sign up on a sheet by listing their phone
numbers and emails. CSF then has a mailing list that contacts all of
the students on the list. They use this frequently for special events
and to invite new people to attend.
• They also employ their leaders and students by asking them to
promote events by sharing posts and photos of the intended events
on their personal social media accounts. This helps to spread the
word to newcomers and those that CSF may not reach otherwise.

8. NEW MEDIA TOOLS: WEBSITE & PODCAST
• CSF uses a main website for anyone who wants to learn more to
interact with. On there they list staff members, express ways to
give, explain what events are happening, and answer
Frequently Asked Questions.
• CSF also has a podcast that shares recordings of previous
sermons from their main worship service called Synergy.

9. MAINTENANCE & EFFECTIVENESS
• One of the staff members is designated as the social media
coordinator. There job is to manage how the events will be
spread online and on social media. They use mailing lists to
send out corresponding information. They proofread messages
and emails before they are sent to make sure the information is
correct and complete.
• These new media tools have been majorly effective in reaching
students and increasing their knowledge of connections and
events to increase their spirituality. The messages spread
through these new media tools help to expand their reach and
help them widen their community.
10. STRENGTHS OF NEW MEDIA TOOLS
• Improved range of reaching new people
• High frequency of reminders
• Easily accessible
• User friendly
• Common form of communication among college-aged people
11. WEAKNESSES OF NEW MEDIA TOOLS
• Some do not have internet or social media accounts
• Number of texts may be limited
• Excessive communication – repetition
• Imperfections may be permanent
• Financial costs of using such new media tools and systems
