Shot types and their descriptions
Extreme long shot – This is also called an establishing shot, it is used to show the
location the scene is in so the audience know where the action will take place.
¾ shot/Long-mid shot – This shot is used to show nearly the full body of the
character but also for the audience to see the emotion the character is
expressing.
Mid-shot – This is used to show the audience what the character is doing with
their hands but also to show a lot of emotion and facial expressions.
2. Long shot – This is used to show the area of a small place, mainly indoors. This
shows the audience the area and who is there. Like in this shot we see that there
are three guards for Hit-Girl to get past in order to complete her goal.
Two-shot – This is used to show two characters with one shot. In this shot we see
two soldiers talking as they stake out and plan their attack against the enemy.
This also used to shoe the separation or togetherness of two characters.
Canted – This is used to show the terror a character creates or feels. This is used
a lot in Horror and is sometimes used in War films
