Region VI or the Western Visayas Region, it is located in Central Philippines. It consists
of six provinces Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo and Negros Occidental and two highly
urbanized cities Bacolod City and Iloilo City. The regional center is Iloilo City. The region is
dominated by the native speakers of four Visayan languages: Kinaray-
a, Hiligaynon, Aklanon and Capiznon.

Aklan is located in the Western Visayas region and is one of the 4 provinces of Panay
Island. Its capital town is Kalibo. Aklan is also known as the “Home of Pina Fiber “and
“Rambutan Center of Asia”.
Aklan is the oldest province in the Philippines organized in 1213 by settlers from Borneo.
It was originally known as “Minuro it Akean “.
The town is known for its famous island which is Boracay and the annual Ati-atihan
Festival celebrated every January. According to the Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-atihan Foundation, Inc.
(KASAFI), the Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-atihan Festival recognized as “The Mother of All
Philippine Festivals” originated in their coastal province.
Majority in the province speaks Akeanon, in other areas some speaks Malaynon and
Buruanganon. Some Aklanons can understand and speak Hiligaynon, Ati, Kinaray-a and
Capiznon. Filipino and English language is also understood and spoken.

in January in honor of the Santo Niño (Infant Jesus), concluding on the third Sunday.

2. ANTIQUE
The population of Antique is largely Malay, immigrants from Borneo centuries before the
Spanish arrived. Antiquenos are very hospitable. They have developed their own distinct language
called Kinaray-a. This dialect is of Austronesian origins characterized by the predominance of r’s
and schwa sounds spoken with a lilting gentle intonation. Antique also known as the “Gemstone
Country” or “Marble Central of Panay”.

Charter a boat from Culasi to take you to hook-shaped Malalison Island. Its sparkling

Capiz is a 1st class province of the Philippines located in the Western Visayas region. Its
capital is Roxas City and is located at the northeastern portion of Panay Island,
bordering Aklan and Antique to the west, and Iloilo to the south. Capiz faces the Sibuyan Sea to
the north. Capiz is known for the Placuna placenta oyster shell that has the same name locally and
is used for decoration and making lampshades, trays, window doors. Likewise, the province is
known as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines.

ASWANG FESTIVAL.The town people celebrate their Annual Festival or called it the
Aswang Festival is celebrated every 29th and 30th day on the month of October. This includes
the parade of participants donning the foremost dreadful costumes like “kapre”, “wak-wak”, and
“tikbalang”.

Celebrated every April 16-20 for the sustained promotion of Mango Industry. Manggahan

Iloilo City's urban planning and architecture reflect the plans of the Spanish colonial and
the American colonial administrations. Since Iloilo City is a conglomeration of towns, the districts

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL also known as “Sugar Bowl of the Philippines”.
The northern and western parts are largely level plains and gently-rolling slopes. The
remaining portion consists of mountain ranges of varied elevations. Mt. Canlaon is the highest
peak in the Visayas. Other major mountains are Mt. Madalagan and Mt. Silay. The coastline is
more irregular than that of Negros Oriental. The province has two pronounced seasons, wet and
dry.
