This is a project I completed for my Digital Media Marketing Strategies class at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for Professor Perry Drake. The purpose of the project was to pose as an SEO company, called UMSL Visibility, and this was meant to be the pitch, if you will. The goal of the presentation was to convince Junk Food Clothing to hire UMSL visibility as their SEO expert. Here is what I produced. Enjoy!
2. TITLE LINE
• “Batman T-Shirt - Cool T-Shirts - 80s T-Shirts - Awesome T-Shirts - Junk
Food Clothing”
• Remember, your title tag is what shows up in SERPs. A good title can really
be make or break. I think this title line is okay, but could use small
improvements.
• For example, you carry more than just Batman T-shirts. So, maybe change
“Batman T-Shirt” to “Superhero T-shirt”
• Eliminate either the cool or awesome t-shirts, and include “Sports T-Shirts”
or “Rock T-shirts”
• The brand name was well placed in the title line. It should be at the end
where you placed it.
• Lastly, the title line may be a bit too long compared to modern day
recommendations. I would shorten this up if possible. In fact, after a certain
amount of characters, it is cut off.

3. KEYWORDS
• “80s T-Shirts, Awesome T-Shirts, Batman T-Shirt, Cool T-Shirts, Band Shirts, Band T-Shirts,
Cool Graphic Tees, Cool T-Shirts For Men, Disney T-Shirts, Football T-Shirts, Funny T-Shirts,
Geek T-Shirts, Graphic Shirts, Graphic Tees, Graphic Tees For Men, Hoodies For Men, Junk
Food Clothing, Junk Food, Marvel T-Shirts, Music T-Shirts, Nerd T-Shirts, NFL T-Shirts, NFL
Tees, Online Clothing Stores, Retro Shirts, Retro T-Shirts, Retro Tees, Rock T-Shirts,
Spiderman T-Shirt, Star Wars T-Shirts, Superhero T-Shirts, Superman T-Shirts, T-Shirt
Company, Vintage Rock T-Shirts, Vintage T-Shirts, Vintage T-Shirts Men, Vintage Tees”
• Far too many keywords. Too many keywords can be uninviting to Google.
• However, as of a few years ago, Google no longer pays much attention to keywords.
Consequently, they have little to no effect on SEO.
• Today, keywords are mostly to be used as a reference/comment section for your own
purposes.

4. DESCRIPTION TAG
• "At Junk Food Clothing, we provide you with cool T-shirts, heroic Batman T-shirts, and
vintage 80s T-shirts so that you can wear awesome T-shirts at every occasion.”
• This is an okay description tag. Though, its not perfect. Remember, although not
important for searches, this is where click-through is gained or lost.
• Again, you carry more than just Batman t-shirts, so why not say so. The description tag
is what potential customers are going to see during a Google search. For example, this
may discourage a Wonder Woman fan away from your website, even though you carry
Wonder Woman shirts.
• There is also no mention of the rock/music, or the sports T-shirts, both of which are
carried on the website.
• After you have successfully appeared in one's search results, your description tag is
what they are going to look at. There is a big opportunity here, and you really need to
utilize this. This is where most people decide whether or not to visit your site.

5. IMAGE TAGS
• Junk Food Clothing did use image
tags on all the product images that I
inspected. Good work.
• Generally, just a short 2-3 word
description of the T-Shirt
• It is important to use image tags on
all images because some visually
impaired visitors use screen readers
that will need a tag to know what the
image shows.
5
6. VISIBLE TEXT
• Very limited amount of visible text. I like this for the most part.
• Not much visible text is needed for a website like Junk Food Clothing.
The small amount of visible text, along with the images and image tags
should be fine.
• The one area where I noticed visible text might be more helpful is on the
product description. There is very little info once you click on a photo.
6
7. NAVIGATION
• Good placement of the navigation
bars. The primary and secondary
navigation bars are simple and well
distinguished.
• Well named and a small number of
navigation labels. Too many items in a
navigation bar can be confusing and
annoying.
• Limited amount of drop down
navigation, the less the better. Visitors
can find this annoying as well. Junk
Food could slightly improve here.
7
8. CHECKOUT PROCESS
• No unnecessary distractions. Checkout is isolated. Good job. Some websites have
distractions off to the side, that will draw shoppers away from checkout.
• Limited clicks amount of clicks required to complete purchase. Good job. If you
want a shopper to purchase an item, you have to make it easy.
• Doesn’t force you to sign up. Gives you the option to checkout as a guest. Very
convenient.
• On the down side, $5.95 is the cheapest available shipping. Free shipping is
important when trying to decrease shopping cart abandonments.
• Something that could be offered to decrease shopping cart abandonments for
returning customers is one-click ordering for customers who have signed up and
saved their info

9. LINKING
• 281 websites link to
Junkfoodclothing.com
- Such as MSN, Forbes, Naver, Pixnet, &
Secure Server
• 689 websites link to Bustedtees.com
- Such as CNN, NY Times, Stack
Exchange, Cnet, & Git hub
9
10. PAGERANK COMPARISON
• Junk Food Clothing PageRank: 5/10
• Busted Tees PageRank: 6/10
• These results do not surprise me. A
large majority of your page rank is
calculated using the various links to
and from your webpage. As you saw
in the previous slide, Busted Tees
has significantly more links.
10
11. GOOGLE SEARCH TEST
• I did a quick Google search of the phrase “tshirts” to test the results
• Busted Tees was the third website listed in the organic search results
• I browsed the first ten pages of Google search results, and failed to
come across Junk Food Clothing
• This is very telling. However, it doesn’t surprise me given some of the
things we have gone over. Junk Food Clothing could definitely use the
help of a search engine optimization professional. Junk Food Clothing
has a great product and website. With the help of our SEO experts, the
website visits and sales at Junk Food Clothing should undoubtedly see a
positive impact.
