2008 Policies and Procedures Manual for
Instructors
Purpose
The purpose of thismanual is to answerpolicyandprocedural questionsinstructorsmayhave about
employmentguidelinesandexpectations.
Professionalism
Instructorsare expectedtomaintainaprofessional attitude atall times.The sellingof goodsorservices
duringthe course is notconsideredappropriate.Contactoutside of the course shouldbe limitedto
course-relatedmeetingsonly.
Attire
Instructorsare expectedtodressinamannerthat is consistentwithbusinesscasual attire.
Rescheduling Courses
If an emergencyoccursandthe instructorisunable toattenda class,the instructorshouldcall the
CommunityEducationofficeassoonas possible.Instructorsmaynotcancel classeswithoutthe consent
of the director.Inan eventthata course mustbe cancelledorrescheduled,the CommunityEducation
office will assistthe instructorincontactingthe course participantsinordertoinformthemof the
cancellation.Alternatively,asubstitute instructormaybe contactedbythe CommunityEducationoffice
to teachthe course basedonavailabilityandqualificationsof the substituteinstructor. The Community
Educationoffice will contactPayroll todirectpaymenttothe substitute instructor.The course instructor
will forfeitanycontractual feesforanyabsence.
Cancelationof Courses
In the eventthatcoursesare cancelled,the signedcontractwiththe instructorforthat classwill be
considerednull andvoid.Coursesmaybe cancelleddue toinclementweatherorinsufficientenrollment.
In addition,feedbackfromthe instructorandparticipantswillalsobe takenintoaccountinplanning
future terms.
Evaluations
Obtainingstudentfeedbackisinstrumental togoodinstruction.Evaluationswill be conductedineach
class.A compiledreportof the participants’feedbackwill be presentedtothe instructorwithintwoor

three weeksof the course.Instructorsare notto see the completedevaluationorbe presentwhen
evaluationsare beingwritten.
Syllabus
A detailedsyllabusshouldbe providedforeachcourse.The syllabusshouldinclude anoutlineof
material tobe coveredand the appropriate numberof daysit will take tocoverthe subjectmatter.Your
syllabusisacontract betweenthe institutionandyourstudentswiththe completionof the syllabus
requirements. The syllabusshouldincludethe completename of the course andlocation,the
instructor’sname andcontact information, the textandothermaterialsrequired,the course objectives,
the studentsassignments,the course schedule andgradingstandards(if applicable), andan evaluation
plan– issue acertificate of completion.A copyof the syllabusshouldbe submittedtothe office nolater
than twoweeksbefore the beginningof eachterm.Thisisto aidthe office inansweringquestionsfrom
potential participantswhowanttoknowadditional informationaboutthe course.Anyhandoutsthat
have beenpreparedshouldalsoaccompanythe syllabus.
Parking
Temporaryparkingpasseswill be issuedforthe daysthat the instructorisscheduledtoteach.The
instructorshouldfollow the parkingguidelinessetforthbyCampusSecurity.Instructorsshould provide
parkingpassestoany studentswhohave notreceivedpassesalongwiththeirregistrationmaterials.
Additional passeswillbe includedinthe instructor’spacketforeachcourse.A rosterof studentswill be
includedinthe instructor’spacket.
Attendance
Instructorsare expectedtokeepanattendance listof eachclass.How thisisdone is lefttothe
discretionof the instructor.Attendancesheet(s)shouldbe handedinwhenevaluationsare droppedoff
at the CommunityEducationoffice. Attendance istakeninordertoprovide accurate informationto
employerwhomaybe payingfora class.
