2. Galatians 3:1-3 (ESV)
The Spirit Confirms It
1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?
It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was
publicly portrayed as crucified. 2 Let me ask
you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by
works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are
you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are
you now being perfected by the flesh?
3. Galatians 3:4-5 (ESV)
The Spirit Confirms It
4 Did you suffer so many things in vain—if
indeed it was in vain? 5 Does he who supplies
the Spirit to you and works miracles among you
do so by works of the law, or by hearing with
faith—
4. Galatians 3:6-9 (ESV)
Abraham Believed It
6 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was
counted to him as righteousness”?
7 Know then that it is those of faith who are the
sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing
that God would justify the Gentiles by faith,
preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham,
saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” 9
So then, those who are of faith are blessed along
with Abraham, the man of faith.
5. Galatians 3:10-12 (ESV)
The Curse Demands It
10 For all who rely on works of the law are
under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be
everyone who does not abide by all things
written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11
Now it is evident that no one is justified before
God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by
faith.” 12 But the law is not of faith, rather “The
one who does them shall live by them.”
6. Galatians 3:13-14 (ESV)
The Curse Demands It
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the
law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written,
“Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—
14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of
Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that
we might receive the promised Spirit through
faith.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)
16 All Scripture is breathed
out by God and profitable
for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, and for training
in righteousness, 17 that
the man of God may be
complete, equipped for
every good work.

26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the
sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no
opportunity to the devil.
In light of the Gospel, how are you doing
with anger?

Editor's Notes
Works point people to us, Faith points people to Jesus, the one who died for our sins and rose again to conquer them.
Paul writing this book to the Churches of Galatia…the is recounted in the book of Acts.
Extremely frustrated because people are reverting the Gospel by trying to add things to it.
Problem comes when Messianic Jews come in contact with Non-Jewish Christians.
Messianic Jews start undermining the Gospel that Paul laid out to the Galatians.
Authenticity of Paul’s mission
Paul calls out Peter for sitting with the Jews instead of the Gentiles…why?
Galatians 2:20-We are right with God because of what Jesus did for them…
So we walk into Chapter 3 where Paul is going to lay out who gets into the family of God and how…
Talking with professing Believers about Jesus dying in our place and taking on the curse of our sin…
Cannot be a anxious witness…
Genesis 4:7 (ESV Strong's) 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”
When does God get angry? Perversion of the Gospel…
Professing Believers…
Very strong criticism…again, not about judging but alignment with the truth that God
Talking with professing Believers about Jesus dying in our place and taking on the curse of our sin…
The Salvation story is not about you and if you believe that Jesus died for your sins and took your place on the Cross, that should be the center of everything you do…has to be.
Not about debtor’s work ethic…
The OT is PART of the story and it has always been God’s plan to unify all the nations through faith and nothing else…
First, Abraham is called the Father of all nations in Genesis 17
The Law is given to Moses in Exodus 20, very simple math here.
Galatians 3:19 and later in Romans 7 & 8 Paul explains why God gave us the Law in the first place:
Negative Role: Magnifying glass on our sin to expose our flaws showing us our guilt.
Positive Role: Rules to keep us in line until the Messiah comes.

The Salvation story is not about you and if you believe that Jesus died for your sins and took your place on the Cross, that should be the center of everything you do…has to be.
God has always seen the whole story and as Believers that is what we are called to do too…
