1. Evidence of my work Goal in Writing Mini goal in Reading Comprehension Presented By: Janette L. Montañez Secc. 111 Prof. Mario Medina
2. Well, as all know this semester I will practice more (five hours of week) for obtain and complete my goal: writing a text in english and clearly. But, I like to reinforce also the Reading Comprenhension area. I will practice more with the internet web pages and programs that I know and I will include a new acitivity to the writing skill: watching movies with english subtitles. I think this is a good excersice because you can listen and read the words in the same time. You see the words correctly writes. To the Reading Comprenhension area I will practice (for one hour of the week) with the same activities but that have relation with the same skill. And to reach these goals this week I began with my plan. Week 1 (February 12-16, 2007)
3. This first week, I worked with the nexts pages: English 4 U and TV 411. Also, I practiced speaking english in the conversation group. I think the conversation groups are importants for all the students, because as we are in pairs, we don’t feel nervous to speak as with the professors, and this it is a good occasion to practice our language in the English. It is a resource that all we must take advantage of. In the conversation group this week we talked about the gifts that I received in the San Valentine’s days. I enjoyed very much, because all of the girls (my conversation group) talked about the gifts that they received and her interesting and funny experiences that they haved. In the classroom I worked with the page TV 411 in the exercise of filling out a job application. With this exercise I learn the abbreviations in english of, for example middle initial (M.I.), month (Mo.), date of birth (DOB), etc... In English 4 U I practiced with comma rules in numbers and sentences. It is a good exercise because give you, for example sentences and you put commas where necessary.
7. Week 2 (February 19-23, 2007) This week I worked less compared to the last week, because monday was holiday. The days that I worked are: tuesday, one hour in conversation group; we talked about the next topic: Which is the roll of Puerto Rican woman? I liked because I could said my opinions about this topic and we enjoyed in the same time. In addition, we learn to pronounce the words in the correct manner because Angela (our tutor) corrects the words to us that we say incorrectly. Wednesday, I worked in the classroom with the program Master Spell. This program helped me with vocabulary. It gives you to choose a different levels and subjects, for example of subjects: objects that you have in your room, continents, colors, animals, etc... The program pronounces the words with one sentence to relate it and next, you write the word. You can listen to whichever times you want. I practiced with the vocabulary exercise of continents, shapes, animals, colors, and the objects that you have in your room. In the drill of continents I obtain 90%, in the drill of objects in the room I obtain 90% and the drill of shapes I obtain also, 90%.
8. Friday, I practiced to my reading comprehension area with the internet web page Reading for ESL students. This page have a number of stories that are organized according to students proficiency level. The stories are accompanied by quizzes. I read the story Kindergarten and then I take a quizz and I obtain 100% percent. I like to read in this page because the english is easy and I understand the stories.
13. Week 3 (March 19-23, 2007) & Week 4 (April 9-13, 2007) In this weeks I dedicated myself to read news in the web page of New York Times http://www.nytimes.com// . In the third week, I read various news and then I chose two to write about them. The first article was published in March 20, 2007. The title of the article is MySpace Restrictions Upset Some Users. The second new that I chose was Borders to Close Many Stores and Start a Retail Web Site, published in March 23, 2007. In the week 4, I wrote about the new A Call for Manners in the World of Nasty Blogs , published in April 9, 2007. In the others days I visited the http://www.nytimes.com// to read the news every day actualized. I think that this activity is excellent to increase my knowledge in the English language. I practice reading in English and also, write in English about the articles, giving my opinions about the different themes and topics.
15. ARTICLE: MySpace Restrictions Upset Some Users Published: March 20, 2007 By BRAD STONE “ The reason why I am so bummed out about MySpace now is because recently they have been cutting down our freedom and taking away our rights slowly,” wrote Tila Tequila after MySpace founder, Tom Anderson eliminated the Hoooka program of her space. Ms. Tequila, has attracted attention by linking to more than 1.7 million friends on her MySpace page. To promote her first album, she recently added to her MySpace page a new music player and music store, called the Hoooka. According to the Tom Anderson, this is not acceptable according to the terms and conditions it was agreed. In my opinion, Myspace is for personal use, to communicate with ours friends, and not to obtain professional benefit in the extreme how put a Link where the people (her “friends”) can buy her CD directly. In the other hand, is necessary to have much care with these sites in the Internet in where the people expose their personal information and photos. I recommend that if has one, make it private, that only their friends can see the space (personal information and pictures) complete. Also, I recommend that they do not accept people who do not know, in this manner they will be able to enjoy tranquility his space and will be able to share the photos and the blog with its friendships.

ARTICLE: Borders to Close Many Stores and Start a Retail Web Site PUBLISHED: March 23, 2007 By JULIE BOSMAN This news surprises to me, because I don’t listened it in the local news, either in the puertoricans newspapers. For me, Borders was a company with much success in the sales. When I need a book goes to Borders at Plaza and the store always is full of people reading, drink a coffee, etc… I don’t imagine the sales in Borders are decreased. I had the opportunity to visit borders at Carolina and also, went a lot of people. But, the company announced a good news: is a new strategic plan, Borders will open its own retail Web site in early 2008. This is a great idea. Borders will give a new jump and it will open a virtual store in the Internet. This is positive for one side, but on the other hand the company already has closed several stores and are going to close on 250 stores. This people who do not have Internet or credit card are not going to be able to make their purchases, unless they have the luck to have a Borders store near that continues giving its services.
17. This article is very important because is about one company who’s like to made a code of conduct that have to follow when we goes to create a blog. I think this is necessary in this time, because today everyone have a blog or personal web page and publish anything. Sometimes publish explicit pictures and material with sexual content and this is not good with the web, because the kids have right to enjoy and learn in the inernet, sure with the parents or adults supervision. The personal pages and bloggs need a secure to control the access to the children. Also, need a codes of conduct to creat it. For example, MySpace.com have a instructions when we goes to create a space, say us that can’t publish pornography, or publicity material. Today, this world only think in sex, I can think that the internet is based on it. For me, the internet is a resource that help us to search valuable information, is to enjoy in the funny pages, is to communicate with our parents whos lives so far. The world have to think much better that have to appreciate the resources that all have, have internet is a opportunity that not all people have and many people need to continue go on.
