The idea of Citizen Journalsim <ul><li>Today’s citizens are technologically equpiied… </li></ul><ul><li>So of there is an incident people more than just notice </li></ul><ul><li>Social networking sites and other user generated content driven sites are all based on users being active </li></ul><ul><li>While facebook/myspace can be a small “book” on yourself and you life </li></ul><ul><li>Wikipedia does the same for “topics” </li></ul><ul><li>CJReport aims the same for news </li></ul>

Is this a good idea? <ul><li>… </li></ul><ul><li>CNN started is citizen journalism website, ireport. </li></ul><ul><li>Raw Tibet news made into Time.com. </li></ul><ul><li>During Nepal popular uprising, up-to-date information was delivered to people. </li></ul><ul><li>Social monitoring… and the idea of everyone being a witness </li></ul><ul><li>What else…? </li></ul>

Why/History <ul><li>CJReport grew from CJNepal. </li></ul><ul><li>CJNepal served as a citizen media during then King Gyanendra’s direct rule. </li></ul><ul><li>Gyanendra deployed army and police in media houses and news was censored. </li></ul><ul><li>Umesh Shrestha, a blogger suggested we do something. </li></ul><ul><li>So a Citizen Journalism website was created. </li></ul>
  7. 7. From Nepal to the world! <ul><li>Laurent Van Winckel, long time friends suggested taking it to the next step… making it bigger. </li></ul><ul><li>We co-founded CJReport! </li></ul>
