Task 4
1. I did some research into different types of film magazines to get an idea of
what magazine would be likely to publish a review or advert of The Thicket. I
found that Total Film would be the most likely and very appropriate at aiming
for our target audience.
After having a browse through the contents I was able to gain a good idea of
what sort of film reviews featured within the magazine. Total Film features
films from many different genres, including thriller, all of which are new
releases in the cinema. This would be perfect for our target audience of
teenagers from the age of 15 to young adults of about 20. This is because
people of this age are interested in keeping up to date with the latest films out
in the cinema, meaning that they are more likely to read this magazine in order
to find out. Films simuluar to our film, The Thicket, include:
Hanna
Insidious
Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark
Hanna in particular is very similar to our film, The Thicket, this being because
the main character, a school-girl, is portrayed in a similar way in both films. In
Hanna, the girl is featured as a violent, killer which is something that would not
be typically related to a girl of this age. The actor who plays her character looks
like a typical, innocent girl making it much stranger that she is like this. With our
main character being a school-girl also, she is also a killer too, again not typical.

3. After having a look at a few film reviews featured in the magazine, I have written one which I feel
could be included in the magazine on our film:
The Thicket
Ever woken from a bad dream and been thankful that it wasn’t real? Or even wondered what it
would be like if it was? Allie Hasler is left asking exactly the same question as she wakes from what
she thought was just a ‘bad dream’, however it soon becomes clear that everything is not what it
seems. After dreaming that she has buried a body and wakes to find the blood on her hands, quite
literally, she is left to unravel the events which happened that night.
With it constantly playing on her mind Allie begins to develop THE VERDICT:
