2. Characters
I have chosen to use two female characters and a
male character
In the opening sequence the audience does not
know anything about them
I have chosen to use two females as the victims in
this sequence as it is conventional to use females as
victims; stereotypically they are represented as the
weaker gender
Therefore I have chosen to use a male as the
antagonist as males are conventionally the weaker
gender
The male character is represented as ‘crazy’ as this
adds to the plausibility of the story, and is more
conventional of the thriller genre
3. Location
The first location I have chosen to use is an interview room, as
this fits in with the plot, of the antagonist being interviewed.
Also, it creates a representation of a position of authority, such
as the police or army
The second location I have chosen is an abandoned room, with
no furniture or anything else in the scene. This makes the
woman trapped here seem more vulnerable and makes the
fearful atmosphere more believable
The final location I have used is a confined space, such as a
boot of a car. However the boot of a car is an impractical place
to film, so to create this effect close up shots and a dark room
will be used so that the location cannot be seen, creating the
effect of somewhere similar. Again this choice of location fits
in with the plot and creates a bigger fearful atmosphere
4. Plot
I have chosen to make the main character mentally unstable as
this creates more fear in the plot for the audience, and allows
unpredictability in this characters story. It is also seen in other
thriller films
There are two trapped women in the opening sequence,
allowing this to be progressed in the film. It is conventional
that women are the victims in these situations in many genre
of film
The main event of this opening sequence is an interview, this
creates a representation of police or higher authority. This has
been seen, for example, in batman. It allows the elaboration
and explanation of any plot, without going in to it too far
I have also chosen to use flashbacks as this allows the
expansion of the plot, but in small pieces, making the
audience want to carry on watching
