- Explain background to decision to catalogue collection One of the key objectives of the Library of Trinity College Dublin’s Strategic Plan 2015-2020 is to increase visibility and access to the Library’s special collections for the purpose of activating new areas of scholarship and teaching. To facilitate its implementation, the newly established Resource Description Group is charged with the task of bringing the Library’s uncatalogued collections and offline catalogues into the online discovery tools and aligning metadata standards and cataloguing practices throughout the Library. The retrospective cataloguing of the Terry Pratchett Collection represents the first project initiated by this group. The collection itself was donated to the Library in 2009 by Trinity alumnus and publisher Colin Smythe and consists of a back catalogue of all his works – approximately two thousand volumes in total - translated into over thirty-three languages. When considered in tandem with the Library’s already extensive legal deposit holdings, it was clear that the collection held research potential across a number of disciplines and as such was an ideal candidate for making a previously uncatalogued collection available to scholars Explain nature of collaboration between EPB & BDM

When leaving your desk, make sure all books are back in their boxes, and return all boxes to the Tomb Room before going home. Once finished, re-shelve the boxes in sequence in the Tomb Room, and indicate completion on the sign-out sheet. Source records, attach barcodes, and add item records, as described below. Where no suitable record can be found, give the book to a designated cataloguer. Follow the usual shortcuts for quality records: in general, prefer RLUK over OCLC; BNB, Oxford and Cambridge records over others; check Encoding Level is blank (or 1 or 4; accept 7; OCLC records can have letter codes: I and L are best; K and M are variable; any other code: consult a cataloguer). Prefer RDA records, but accept AACR2 Check 008 codes concerning year and country of publication, language, and fiction (must be f or 1). Check 040|b: must be “eng” (and all non-transcribed fields must be English). Check the usual fields for accuracy: 100, 245, 260/264, 300, 700.
