2. Male fashion
Within R&B music videos, fashion between both male and females dancer, actress's or
singers portray a different message towards the audience. This is showed through
different clothing depending of the gender of the artist or accessories.
Smart/Casual Clothing:
Male artists usually dress in expensive smart or casually clothing. This is done to show
wealth and also their high class towards the audience. It allows inflicts the audience to
want to purchase the clothing in order to look and feel the part. Artists in which do this
would be Trey Songz, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown.
Tattoos:
Male artists are normally shown as sexy and desirable towards the female audience. From
knowing this artists normally have tattoos on their body to look more appealing within
the video and towards the audience. However, from doing this it makes viewers
watching feel as if they need to acquire a tattoo in order to be cool or look the part aka
(Following the trend)
Jewellery:
Most artists wear jewellery in their music videos although, R&B artists normally only wear a
small amount. The jewellery they normal posses are very expensive and flashy. These
items are normally watches, form of technology or chains. Again this Intrigues the
viewer and makes them feel as if they need to have this item the these
artists/celebrities posses

Classy/Revealing:
Based upon the narrative or aspect of the song/video, the clothing the female may wear
maybe generally either be classy or revealing clothes. The uses of classy clothes would
be used to produced the idea that women are independent and can also have a high
class status. Although, in some cases to raise awareness towards a feminism. On the
other hand, revealing clothes would be used to produce a sexy and desirable influence
towards the male and also female audience. Revealing clothes that would be worn
would be heels, tight clothing or Lingerie. However, from doing this it influences the
female audience to needing clothes like these in order to show their sexy side. Artists
that do this are Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.
Jewellery:
From as well as males, females also wear jewellery. This would be due to the fact that
jewellery is more of a higher demand towards women than men in general and within
some videos. Although, this could also be due to that fact that women use jewellery in
order to be attractive and to also attract their audience both being male and female.
Hair and Make-Up:
Women and men tend to get there hair done in different styles to either look appealing or
to exaggerate their looks to make themselves look more to what the audience thinks if
the perfect male or female. This is usually done by using extensions in their hair or
adding hair products to look more glamorous. Make-up is also a very huge part of a
women’s look as it represents her beauty and ability to look more appealing towards
the audience. This is normally done with wearing lipstick or dark make-up in order to
look more dominant or sexy.
