Dear Library of Virginia,
Thank you for reviewing my application for you Stack Technician vacancy. I have
significant work and educational experience that would leave me well prepared for this job. I
completed my A.B. in Visual Arts at the University of Chicago in 2007. I completed my
M.A.Ed. at the College of William and Mary with a 3.53 GPA in Gifted Education in 2016. I
completed one year of doctoral study in Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University
with a 3.77 GPA. I completed my master’s thesis, The Dispositions of Teachers of Artistically
Talented Students in 2016. In fall of 2020 I began a Library and Information Science M.L.I.S.
program at the University of Southern Mississippi
I have a record of commitment to public service. I completed 928 volunteer hours from
May to October of 2018 as a member of the Student Conservation Association Adirondack
Corps. I completed a term of service as a Park Operations Member with the Virginia Service
and Conservation Corps completing additional 1,201 volunteer hours. I have completed more
than 1 year of full-time volunteer service. As part of my responsibilities at Pocahontas State
Park in Chesterfield, VA I gained experience in cash handling and operation of a cash register.
I also gained customer service experience by helping customersrent boatshere atthe boat docks
and by working at the contact station. I collected entrance fees and oriented customers to the
park by providing directions and answering general questions. I have customer service
experience as a Customer Support Representative at Conduent. This role required me to
provide technical support to customers who were having issues with their smart phones. I had
to work quickly to resolve my customers’ technical problems (which were sometimes quite
complicated) in a friendly and competent manner.
I also have more than 5 years of experience as a teacher and substitute teacher,1 year
of experience as a biology lab technician, 3 years of experience in educational testing, 2 years
of experience as a graduate research assistant, and 1 year of experience working with students
with disabilities in therapeutic settings. My experience working with students is particularly
relevant to this application because I worked with multiple stakeholders including my students,
their parents and guardians, fellow teachers,administrators, and members of the community to
accomplish multiple complex instructional goals. Teaching requires a lot of energy and
independent motivation, which would help me succeed at the VCU Library.
My 2 years of experience as a Graduate Assistant and 3 years of part time experience
with ETS required me to be comfortable with office software and more complex software such
as SPSS. I also hold current Wilderness Advanced First Aid, AED, and CPR certification. I
have completed my first semester in my M.L.I.S. program at USM with a 4.0 GPA. I will be
receiving graduate level training in library and information science over the next two years so
this position would be highly relevant to my educational and career path. Please see letters of
