1. Acknowledgment of Country
-Respects the Torres Straight and Indigenous people’s continued connection
with the land and their ancestors.
-As a parliamentary member you are representing your electorate and that
includes other cultures, by starting off with this it shows a speaker is open to
all cultures.
“I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of
the land we are meeting on today. We recognise their
connection to the land, waters and culture and pay
respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.”
2. WHO IS SHE?
Connect with the audience on a personal level and talk about what
makes this person right to be a representative.
“I am a proudly born and bred Rockhampton local and am so
very lucky to have grown up in our incredible community
surrounded by incredible nature. Growing up I didn’t realise
how lucky I was to have every weekend feel like a holiday
because of the great places all around me that i would visit.”
3. Education
Make sure education is spoken about as a benefit and opportunity for
the area.
“I studied at CQU, one of Australia’s biggest regional universities.
Central Queensland University is a dual sector university and provide
education to all walks of life. They are also working extremely hard
to have one of the biggest and best online sectors in Australia which
will be an exciting journey for many people who currently struggle
to go to university because of their jobs or family commitments.”

“Both of my parents have worked within our community, My dad has
worked all around Central Queensland in the Tourism Industry,
managing and restoring many different motels around Rockhampton
and the Capricorn Coast. My mother works with local businesses,
helping them make sure their payroll and accounting is in order. At
the moment she is extremely busy making sure all of her small
business clients can access our government grants to help them get
through the hard time the country is facing right now.”
5. COVID-19 & Care Army
“This worldwide pandemic has created some tough times for
us all, and my community is no exception. CQ people are
strong and resilient and we will get through this together. I am
proud to see so many people from my community
volunteering in Queensland’s ‘Care Army’ and I thank the
Premier and fellow members for promoting it so well as I am
sure it is doing so many great things all across our wonderful
state.”

“I’m excited to work closely with our sporting
community to ensure they have the best
opportunities to continue to raise Australia’s future

8. Airport and Shoalwater Bay
Potential for Airport to be used for more international and also
encouraging the use of shoalwater bay to boost local economy.
“We host a range of tourists and
visitors all year round, including
soldiers from across the world who
come to the Military training area
known as Shoalwater Bay.This
training area contributes a lot to
our electorate and their visitors fill
our motels, restaurants and bars
during their visits which provides a
much needed boost to our local
economy.”
9. Touch on Agriculture • We Grow 1/3 of Australia’s
Pineapples.
• We are the Beef Capital of
Australia.
• We have Cattle Farmers all
around the area as well as
meat production facilities.

through hard times such as
drought and any importing
issues that arise over the
coming months.
10. Charity/Community
and Collaboration
with Neighbor
electorate.
“Speaking of Farmers, Peter Foxwell has property in our neighbour
electorate and just raised over $25,000 for cancer research over the 3
day May long weekend by selling sunflowers from his property. Not
only did this lift the spirit in our community during this hard time, but
also shows just how incredible the Rockhampton and Keppel
community is and I thank Barry O’Rourke for working with me to
ensure our electorates are one big community.”
11. Thank volunteers for support and talk about
excitement to represent Constituents and
help keep Keppel an incredible place to live.
