2. Anthropology
Based on etymology comes from the greek words Anthropos
which means “man” and logos which means “science or study of.”
A discipline of infinite curiosity about human beings. They seek to
discover when, where and why humans appeared on earth. They
look at how humans have changed then.
Has been defined as branch of knowledge which deals with the
scientific study of man, his or her works, behavior, value in time
and space.
A Scientific study of physical, social, cultural development.
3. Anthropology as a Science
The proper sphere of anthropology as a
science is to strive to secure historical,
sociological and psychological laws that
describes the overall trends of processes
among the all people of prehistoric and
historic periods.
4. BRANCHES OF ANTHROPOLOGY
Physical Anthropology – Biological Anthropology. It
deals with man’s biological foundation, race evolution,
racial classification and differentiation.
Cultural Anthropology –Social Anthropology. Deals
with one of the most significant and revolutionary
concepts in the social science.
5. Sociology
The word “sociology”, based on etymology comes from the
word socius which means “group of partners” and logos
which means “science and study of”.
Sociology deals with the study of group.
According to H. Ficher, sociology is the scientific study of
patterned, shared human behavior”.
Deals with the study group of life.
6. Areas of Sociology
Social Organization-covers the various of social institutions,
social groups, social stratification, social mobility, bureaucracy,
ethnic groups and relations, and other related subjects. Topics
like the family, education, politics, religion and economy are
studied in this area.
Social Psychology-deals with the study of human nature as an
outcome group of life, social attitudes, collective behavior and
personality information. It deals with the group of life and
individual traits, attitudes and beliefs as influenced of group of
life. It views man with reference group of life.
7. Social Change and Disorganization-includes the study of the change of
culture, social relations and the disruptions may occur in the society. Deals
with the current social problems in society such as juvenile delinquency,
criminality, drug addiction, family conflicts ,divorce, population problems and
other related subjects.
Human Ecology-Studies nature and behavior of a given population and it’s
relationship to the group present social institution.
Population or Demography the population of number, composition and
quality as they influence the economic, political and social system.
Sociological Theory and Method- concerned with the applicability and
usefulness of the principles and theories of group of life as bases for the
regulation of man’s social environment. Includes the formulation of theories
and testing them as bases for the prediction and control of man’s social
environment
8. Applied Sociology-utilize the findings of sociological research
in various fields such as criminology, education, social work,
community development, industrial relations, marriage, ethnic
relations, family counseling and other aspects and problems of
daily life.
Sociology as a Science
Deals with the systematized or organized body of facts body of
patterns of human interactions, group of life and of people living
interdependence.
Sociology is a science.
9. Political Science
Focuses on the theory and practice of government and
politics at the local, state, national and international
levels.
Dedicated to developing of understanding the
institutions, practices and relations, that constitute
public life and modes of inquiry that promotes
citizenship.
10. Relationship of Anthropology with other
Social Science
Both sociology and Anthropology is social sciences.
Sociology does not study behavior that is not social.
Likewised although sociology are interested in historical
events and processes, they focus on social patterns. Maybe
interested in economic and political influences.
Psychology, history, economics, political science and social
work among others contribute information useful to
sociological and anthropological.
11. Relationship of Anthropology and
Sociology
Both sciences attempt to understand the way of
life of various culture or various societies.
Concept in one discipline are used in the other
The emphasis of sociology is on society and
social processes, while that anthropology is on
culture. It is a fact that society and culture is
interrelated and interdependent concepts.
12. Both sciences are also interested of study of social issues
(population growth, environment, urban poverty, and
similar subjects.)
Both are related to humanities.
