Latitude: 24 degrees 35’ North
Longitude: 61 degrees and 78^ East
It is located in the north western part of Asia
Total area: 796,096 square km (59% of the area consists of mountains and
plateaus whereas 41 41 % includes plains and deserts)
Borders ( China in the extreme north east, Afghanistan in the west, South
West: Iran, South East: India and the Arabian Sea towards the south)
Provinces
enjoys a key position in South Asia due to its access to neighbouring countries
and sea.
3. Natural Topography of Pakistan
Topography is the study of the surface features of land (eg mountains, plateaus,
plains, deserts etc)
Pakistan can be divided into six main topographical areas:
1. The North and North Western Mountains ( karakoram, Himalayas and Hindukush)
2. The Western Mountains ( Safed Koh, Waziristan hills, Sulaiman and Kirthar range)
3. The Balochistan Plateau
4. Postwar Plateau and the Salt Range
5. The Indus Plain (Upper & Lower Indus Plains) and
6. Desert Areas (Kharan, Thar and Thal Deserts)
