Extensive train control device extensively and compositely monitors the complicated train operation status as well as high-speed train operation in some sections of
the existing lines and the entire high-speed railway sections. This monitoring operation is carried out on a real-time basis by the central control room. According to the
train operation plans set in computer, train operation is automatically controlled. When necessary, commands are appropriately controlled and administered
manually to ensure safety and efficiency of high-speed train operation. This device has been duplex-configured to improve safety, reliability and convenience of
maintenance. The key functions of extensive train control device include operation scheduling, train tracking, maintenance, statistics processing and signalling control.
This system consists of the main computer, communication computer, developer computer, commanding console, display panel and near-range communication

Automatic train control device is divided into ground device that transmits allowable speed set by considering various conditions on the ground (position of the train in
front and track slope/ radius of curvature) to train device and train device that receives and displays information sent from ground device.
Ground devices include input/ output device and data processing device installed inside signalling machine room located on the trackside at intervals. Ground device
consists of track circuit device installed on the outdoor trackside, various marks, transmission cable and safety switch. The key functions are to detect the presence of
train with track circuit, to exchange signalling information with the adjacent track circuit, to identify signalling conditions, such as track conditions of route ahead and
direction of turnout opening, by interface with interlocking device, to automatically change the rear speed signallings according to train operation and to transmit train
signalling information to train through track circuit.
Train device is installed at the vehicle. This device consists of antenna, train speed detector, on-train computer, speedometer, recorder and on-train display unit. The
key functions are to receive ground signalling through antenna and to display the allowable speed in engine room, to create braking curve, to compare allowable
speed with the actual speed of train operation and to administer automatic braking in case the allowable speed is exceeded.
Automatic train control device is duplex-configured to improve reliability, safety and convenience of maintenance. This system is configured in fail-safe mode to ensure
safety at all times even in case of equipment breakdown.
Through the consortium project of KTX stage 1 and 2 train control system implementation between Seoul and Busan,
LSIS controls the 350km/h level trains.
The highly reliable ground and train devices of LSIS are installed and operated in a number of subway routes .
LSIS is making continuous investment to R&D of signalling system in order to develop ATC system for the 400km/h level
next-generation high-speed railway operation and CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) System for Metro/LRT.
With information obtained in the communication between train and track, train operation is automatically controlled by
compositely considering signalling conditions, route status, track conditions and operation environments.

For safe train operation within station and at the interim passing line, interlocking system prevents accidents by interlocking railway signalling, switches, track circuits
and train routes for cascading operation. In addition, safe train operation is ensured even when erroneous control is made due to operator’s mistake. This system is
configured in the 2 out of 3 mode and with electronic interlocking device outstanding in safety, reliability and convenience of maintenance that enables successful
interface with ATC (automatic train control device)/ CTC (centralized train control device) and convenient extension and improvement of equipments. 2 out of 3 mode,
which ensures a high level of safety, can be employed only in case 3 processes with the same data produce at least 2 matching results.
The key functions of interlocking system are to control signalling or speed information after investigating trains blocking route, conflicting routes and signalling status,
to prevent switch conversion by train in case the train occupies a turnout section (track locking), to prevent switch conversion within the route when a train approaches
(approach stick) and to prevent switch conversion within the route when a train occupies the route section (route locking) as well as to administer train overlapping
protection, to clear the locked track switch after train departure and to ensure protection against erroneous handling by operator.
Interlocking system consists of reverse control panel, electronic interlocking panel, information transmission device, display panel, repair device, field control module
and data link module, etc.
This system interlocks and controls trackside equipments for railway operator to determine train operation route.
A variety of field facilities, such as railway signalling, track converter and railway crossing, are interlocked for control to
ensure safety of train operation.

Kyungbu HSR line is the 1st high speed rail line in Korea, stretching from Seoul Station, Bongrae-dong, Jung-uu, Seoul
to Busan Station, Choryang-dong, Dong-uu, Busan and went in operation on April 1, 2004.
Kyungbu HSR line project was planned to open the 1st leg (Seoul ~ Daegu with the conventional Daegu ~ Busan section
being electrified) by 2004 and the 2nd leg (Daegu ~ Kyungju ~ Busan) by 2010. Phase 1 of the Project was initiated in
June, 1992 and commissioned on April 1, 2004, with the Seoul ~ Daegu section newly built and Daegu ~ Busan section
and intra-city conventional railroad sections in Daejeon and Daegu electrified.
Phase 1 of the Project cost 12 trillion and 737.7 billion KRW in total.
Phase 2 of the Project that began in 2002 includes construction of Daegu ~ Kyungju ~ Busan section and intra-city
sections running through Daejeon and Daegu, with scheduled completion in 2010.
Upon completion of Phase 1 of the Kyungbu HSR line project, trip time between Seoul and Busan which took 4 hours 10
minutes in the past was reduced to 2 hours 40 minutes. Upon completion of Phase 2 in 2010, high-speed section will be
stretched along the entire line except for the intra-city sections in Daejeon and Daegu, further reducing the trip time
between Seoul and Busan to 2 hours 10 minutes. The line is aligned through Seoul ~ Gwangmyung ~ Cheonan ~ Asan ~
Daejeon ~ Dongdaegu ~ Kyungju ~ Busan and Osong (Chungbuk) ~ Gimcheon (Gyungbuk) ~ Woolsan stations were
added to the planned line alignment in November, 2003.
Total line length is now 409.8km and it is to be extended to 418.7km upon completion of Phase 2.
