2. What is G20 ?
• The G20 or Group of 20 is
an intergovernmental forum comprising 19
sovereign countries, the European Union (EU),
and the African Union (AU). It works to address
major issues related to the global economy, such
as international financial stability, climate change
mitigation and sustainable development.

• The G20 was founded in 1999 in
response to several world economic
crises Since 2008, it has convened at
least once a year, with summits involving
each member's head of
government or state, finance minister,
or foreign minister, and other high-ranking
officials; the EU is represented by
the European Commission and
the European Central Bank. In its 2009
summit, the G20 declared itself the
primary venue for international economic
and financial cooperation

• The 2022 G20 Bali summit was the seventeenth
meeting of Group of Twenty (G20), which was
held in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia on 15–16
November 2022. Indonesia's presidency began
on 1 December 2021, leading up to the summit
in the fourth quarter of 2022. The presidency
handover ceremony was held as an intimate
event, in which the G20 presidency gavel was
transferred from Italian Prime Minister Mario
Draghi to Indonesian president Joko Widodo at
the close of the Rome summit. Preceding the

group of the G20, Youth20 (Y20) held its Y20

• India's G20 presidency has marked a significant milestone in its global
leadership role. With, India taking the presidency for the first time, it is
steering discussions and initiatives among the world's major economies to
address complex challenges. With its diverse economy, technological
prowess, and commitment to sustainable development, India is poised to
bring unique perspectives to the table. During the presidency, India is
focusing on various issues like inclusive growth, digital innovation, climate
resilience, and equitable global health access. By leveraging its
presidency, India is fostering collaborative solutions that not only benefit its
own population but contribute to the broader global well-being, reinforcing
its spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or the ‘World is One Family’.

• The G20 Logo draws inspiration from the
vibrant colours of India’s national flag –
saffron, white and green, and blue. It
juxtaposes planet Earth with the lotus,
India’s national flower that reflects growth
amid challenges. The Earth reflects
India’s pro-planet approach to life, one in
perfect harmony with nature. Below the
G20 logo is “Bharat”, written in the
Devanagari script
• The theme of India’s G20 Presidency -
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One
Earth · One Family · One Future” - is
drawn from the ancient Sanskrit text of
the Maha Upanishad. Essentially, the
theme affirms the value of all life –
human, animal, plant, and
microorganisms – and their
interconnectedness on the planet Earth
and in the wider universe.

13. Climate finance
• Climate finance is one of India's
agendas at the G20. India will
try to promote fast-track delivery
of climate finance and urge
developed countries to raise the
bar for climate finance to $100
billion per year. It will also work
with other G20 countries to
enhance the deployment of zero
and low-emission power
generation including renewable
energy.

14. Food security and Promoting
Millets
• After disruption in the global food
supply chain due to the
pandemic and the Russia-
Ukraine crisis, India will utilise its
G20 presidency to ensure that
the supply chain of both manure
and food grain is stable and
assured. An uninterrupted supply
of fertilizers will also be
prioritised. Several events will be
held to celebrate the International
Day of Millets and promote
traditional and nutritious food
grains

15. Accelerating Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs)
• The SDGs are a part of India's
development agenda and it will
try to promote progress in
SDGs during the G20. The 17
global goals include zero
hunger quality education,
clean water and sanitation,
gender quality, decent work
and economic growth, climate
action, and life below water
among others.

• India highlights that
institutions such as the
World Bank and IMF need
to provide greater
representation to
developing and emerging
countries. Under India's
G20 presidency, fast-
tracking reforms of global
governance institutions
