2. Louis XVI had signed the constitution .

1792 to declare war against Austria and Prussia .]

3. Now due to war, the people of France again came to
losses and Economic difficulties.
Men went for war meanwhile women stayed back home
to take care of the family and started earning .
JACOBIN CLUB
AS the revolutions was brought losses and difficulties
to the people the constitution of 1791 give political
rights only to the rich people of the society and then
the political clubs became important in which most
successful club was Jacobin’s club..
It’s leader was Maximilian Robespierre..
The members of Jacobin’s club belongs to less
prosperous section of society .
They used to wear red caps.
Also, called as Sans-culottes.
4. On August 10, they
imprisoned the royal family ,
in the palace of Tuileries.
The elections were held in
1792.
All men of 21 years and
above , were eligible for
voting.
The newly elected members
were called convention.
Robespierre became the new
president of France .
5. EXECUTION OF LOUIS XVI
o On 21 January 1793 Louis XVI was sentenced to death by the
court on the charge of treason and was executed publicly by
guillotine.
o A guillotine is a device consisting of two poles and blade.
The period from 1793 to 1794 in France is called the
Reign of Terror. Robespierre, the head of the Jacobin
Club, followed the policy of severe control and
punishment. Clergymen, nobles and people who were
considered enemies to the republic were guillotined.
Even he ordered the killing of his own party members
who did not agree to his methods and ways.
Robespierre followed his policies so strictly that even
his supporters turned against him. Finally, he was
convicted by a court in July 1794 and was guillotined.
THE REIGNOF TERROR
6. The Directory was a five-member committee which governed
France from 1795, when it replaced the Committee of Public
Safety, until it was overthrown by Napoleon Bonaparte in
the Coup of 18 Brumaire and replaced by the French
Consulate. Although it was gradually removed by Napoleon
in 1799. The Directory was responsible for ending the
excesses of the Reign of Terror. During the four years of the
directory, the economy of France was in a constant state of
crisis.
