Villalba Kevin.
WELCOME
CHILDREN
Hello guys, we are
Zharick, Angie and
Kevin. We are going to be
your English teachers. In
this class we are going to
learn how to use
comparatives and
superlatives in the
correct way.
Warm
up
Let’s think
which adjective
is the
opposite.
Beautiful Thin
Tall Small
Fat Pale Skin
Long Ugly
Dark Skin Short
Grammar
explanation
In this part we are going to
learn comparatives and
superlatives.
Let’s start with...
Comparatives Adjectives.
We use this kind of adjectives to compare two nouns.
Keep in mind that for short adjectives we just add “ER”
Example: Tall Taller
When the adjective has a vowel between two
consonants we multiply the last letter.
Example: Fat Fatter
When the adjective ends with “Y” we change it by “I”
and then add “ER”
Example: Heavy Heavier
For long adjectives we add MORE before the adjective.
Example: Beautiful MORE beautiful
Irregular
Adjectives as
comparatives
Be careful with them...
Irregular adjectives are those that
change since their roots.
They work like these:
Good Better
Bad Worse
Far Further
Now it’s turn for you to practice
1.Thin
2.Long
3.Intelligent
4.Bad
5.Short
6.Pretty
a.Thiner b.Thinner c.More thin
a. More longer b.More long c.Longer
a. Intelligenter b.More intelligent c. More intelligenter
a.Badder b. Worse c.More bad
a. Shorter b. More shorter c.More short
a.Prettyer b. Prettier c. More pretty
Change this adjectives into comparative form by choosing the correct one in
each case.
Grammar
explanation
Well, now continue with
superlative adjectives
A superlative adjective is used for express the
extreme quality of something in a group of things.
Example: The largest wall in the world is the chinese
wall.
Rules for short superlatives adjectives:
● At the beginning we add “THE”.
● We add “est” at the end of the adjective.
● If an adjective ends in “e” we just add “st”.
Example: Camila has the largest house in her
neighborhood.
Rule for long adjectives:
● For long adjectives we do not use at the end
“est”.
● You have to use the most.
Example: Carlos has the most expensive car in the
city.
Irregular
Adjectives as
superlatives.
Once again, be careful with
them.
As superlative form they work like
these:
Good The best
Bad The worst
Far The farthest
Important notes
See some examples.
For writing sentences we
always and always use THAN after
the comparative.
Examples:
Laura is taller THAN me.
Juanes is more handsome THAN
my brother.
That house is better THAN this
one.
