Bargate Hub
1. I was set the task of designing a temporary
structure which would be located in the City
Centre, near the historical Bargate, to promote
the courses and services SSU has to offer to its
target market.
Here are some pictures of my design…
2. Information Hub Materials
My structures roof is unique therefore I will need
custom made materials. The arc’s will be made of
a lightweight reinforced steel and will be coated in
a thin layer of an opaque acrylic to give it it’s white
colour. This will all be fixed on to a steel plate that
will fit the shape on my structure and will fit onto
the circular wall and twin pillars at the front of the
hub. The roof arcs will then have a transparent
polycarbonate roof to make the structure weather
tight from the top down to the walls.
Floor will be a timber frame with a reinforced
metal mesh sheet to provide an elevated flat
surface. A basic underlay will then be fitted
followed by a laminate affect linoleum.
The circular wall is the focal point of my
structure . This will be constructed by using 5
timber columns with plywood to create the
circular shape and then skimmed to give it a
flat/smooth surface. Chosen wood as
opposed to steel as it is renewable and can
be recycled, going with my sustainable
theme.
I have chosen to put my iPads on elevated
stands so people can use them standing up.
The stands will be made of plywood to create
the circular shape, and then I’ll a thicker piece
of wood the sit on the top to place the iPads
upon. These will then be painted.
The wall placed in the centre of
my structure works like a
partition wall to separate the
two sections but not entirely
dividing them off. It will be
constructed using a
prefabricated board with timber
beams to give it some strength
to hold up the TV screen as this
will be heavy.
