General Certificate?

the world take the NEBOSH International General
Certificate because it gives them the skills and know-how

The NEBOSH International General Certificate is
also suitable for those embarking on a career in health
and safety, providing a sound basis for progression on to
the NEBOSH International Diploma. No previous health
and safety knowledge is required.

What does the qualification cover?
The NEBOSH International General Certificate
(IGC) covers the principles relating to health and safety,
identification and control of workplace hazards and the
practical application of this knowledge.
The IGC syllabus takes a risk management
approach based on best practice and international
standards, such as the International Labour Organization
(ILO) codes of practice.
Local laws and cultural factors may form part of
the study programed where relevant and appropriate.
The qualification also features a practical
workplace assessment.

The International General Certificate is divided into
three units, each of which is assessed separately:
1.Management of international health and safety (IGC1)
2.Control of international workplace hazards (IGC2)
3.International health and safety practical application (IGC3)

How is it assessed?
Units IGC1 and IGC2 are taught units each
assessed by one 2 Hr written examination.
Each written examination consists of 10 ‘short-
answer’ questions and 1 ‘long-answer’ question.
All questions are compulsory.
Candidate scripts are marked by external
examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

Unit IGC3 is assessed by one two-hour practical
examination carried out in the candidate's own
workplace.
The assessment must normally be taken within 14
days of a written examination.
The practical examination is internally assessed by
the course provider and externally moderated by
NEBOSH.

When will I receive my result? Contd..
For written examinations, the date by which the
candidate should receive a written result notification is
stated on the candidate’s examination entry
confirmation.
Certificate-level practical assessments must be
taken within 14 days of a written examination so the
practical result will be included with the result for the
written examination.
All results (including those for written
assignments) should be received within ten weeks from
the date of the examination or submission of assignment.

NEBOSH's Certificate
NEBOSH's Certificate-level qualifications give a
good foundation in health and safety for managers,
supervisors and staff with health and safety among their
day to day responsibilities.
These qualifications are widely taken as a first step
towards a career in health and safety and are accepted by
IOSH – the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health –
in meeting the academic requirements for Technical
Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH).
