1. Proposal
TO: Tyler Perry, CEO of Tyler Perry Studios
FROM: Kayla Regis
DATE: August 1, 2020
SUBJECT: Keeping The Movement Alive
__________________________________________________________________
Introduction
Across the nation there are too many voices going unheard. The media has diluted their
chants for justice with malicious narratives that only portray the bad. No longer are we
seeing the major news outlets cover the peaceful marches and gatherings. In turn this is
forcing viewers to shy away from the Black Lives Matter movement, because they are
being shown that it is nothing but a chance for looting or that the movement is dead all
together. The false or misleading narratives don’t just stop in the newsroom, they carry
into our courts, politician’s offices, even the White House. With this proposal I want to
change that and shine a light on the people who are still speaking for those that have been
unjustly silenced.
Statement of the Problem or Need
According to BBC News, between 2014 and 2020 there have been over 10 African
American lives unjustly taken due to brute and unnecessary police force. The most recent
being George Floyd, who died because a policeman took a knee on his neck. What all of
these deaths have in common is that they all were the catalyst for all kinds of protests and
marches and visits to Washington to propose some kind of reform and end this careless
bloodshed. Voting is the most effective way to make a change in the political climate we
are in. Research shows that all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives
and 35 out of the 100 seats in United States Senate are to be contested this year
(Wikipedia, 2020). Most recently, due to the untimely death of George Floyd, enraged
citizens were rallying across all 50 states in the middle of a global pandemic. Then
suddenly news coverage on the calls for change ceased and the peaceful protestors were
broadcasted as looters and criminals. There are also those who think the movement only
lasted a few days. A documentary confirming that everything is still in motion and that
activists are kicking the door down and calling for reform at every level would
immensely aid things.
Proposed Solution
2. With help from Tyler Perry and Tyler Perry Studios I can not only get this documentary
in front of the people but in front of politicians and other big-name activists. This project
can light a fire in the hearts and minds of Americans and pave the way for real change
nationwide. The name Tyler Perry holds weight in rooms that I unfortunately would not
be able to get into if I put this project out on my own. In terms of hardware the studio
also has far better equipment and staff. Besides a projected monetary investment return
this could also be a chance for philanthropy for Mr. Perry. Upon his approval I can list
him or Tyler Perry Studios as the executive producer of the project. There could also be
possible opportunities to speak with major press outlets about the project and we can also
rollout the film in selected theaters nationwide.

Staffing
3. Professional and experienced staff members are fundamental with a project of this
caliber. I am 100% confident that Tyler Perry Studios has an endless repertoire of
seasoned camera operators and etc. Since I am proposing a collaboration between the
studio and I, I would like to be accompanied by Tyler Perry Studios best camera and
production crew. Preferably those with 7+ years in the industry and some traveling
experience. Besides myself as Director, I would also like to have an on-site doctor or
nurse since we will be traveling a lot.
Budget
Hotel & Travel - $45,000
Staff (Camera operators, Director, Producers, etc) - $200,000
Equipment - $50,000
Marketing/Promotion - $15,000
Editorial/Post-Production Staff - $20,000
Traveling Doctor - $5,000
Total - $335,000
Summary
To close, this project could be instrumental in the key to stopping systematic oppression.
It will help open America’s eyes to the injustices that take place on her land every day
and also to the negligence of the those who are sworn to serve and protect us whether it is
in a blue uniform or a tom ford suit. This is a great opportunity for Tyler Perry and Tyler
Perry Studios to spearhead a movement. Due to the current climate of the nation and the
various restrictions on what can and cannot happen, we would like to stay on schedule.
