Projects:
Project 1: FMS (Flight Management System)
Duration: Jan 2009 to Till date
Client: AIRBUS (A350, A340, A320), BOEING (B777, B787-9) and
DORNIER (DO-328)
Team Size: 12
Role: SW Developer
Environment: C, C++, ADA83.
Guidelines: DO-178B
Description:
A Flight Management System (FMS) is airborne software component found on modern aircrafts. This is an automated system
which integrates sensors, systems and displays to give economy with a minimum workload for pilot. The FMS helps the pilot
to create the flight plan. It optimizes the flight plan for winds and operating costs, fills in the details, and suggests the most
economical climb profile, cruise altitude, airspeed, step climb, and descent. The FMS provides various safety critical
advisories to the pilot through the entire flight plan, from takeoff till landing.
My Contributions:
My role is more into design and development of FMS software to develop FMS-Crew Interface (CI), Built In Test equipment
(BITE) and PRINTER components software in C and Ada83 programming language.
Currently working on a major initial development feature Computed Air Release Point (CARP) for Dornier DO-328 aircraft.
I was completely involved in few major initial development activities such as Planned Offset (PO), Full phase Required time
of Arrival (FPRTA) of Boeing B787-9 program, LRU monitoring feature in Airbus A350 and few minor initial development
of features like duplicate waypoint naming for Boeing B777, speed only constraints for Boeing B787-9, contributing in all
phases of software life cycle (Requirement, Design, implementation, integration testing).
Apart from this development work, I was also involved in many other activities as listed below.
Other activities:
• Involved in providing the estimation for few new functionalities.
• Involved in Software Requirements Development from Customer requirements (Detailed Technical specification for
Airbus or Tier 3 requirements for Boeing).
• Providing the valuable suggestion to team members in the Design & Development through thorough Software
checkouts.
• System Software Implementation using higher level language C, C++ and Ada83.
• Resolving/fixing technical issues reported by Testing team and systems team of Airbus and Boeing.
• Code SCR fix up and Enhancement of existing functionality as per Customer requirements.
• Analysis and Observation resolution for V&V team and RESET analysis.
• Reviews of work products (Requirements, Design, Trace and Code).
• Mentoring new team members.
• Performing Ad-hoc check outs by executing various scenarios’s to make sure system robustness after fixing issue on
benches.
• Health Safety and Environment (HSE) focal for the team.
