Letter to Judges

  1. 1. 1550 Owens Store RoadCanton, GA 30115April 18, 2012Judges, Senior ProjectCreekview High School1550 Owens Store RoadCanton, GA 30115Dear Judges: Hello, my name is Kathryn Hunter and I am senior at Creekview High School. Icompleted my senior project with great honor, helping many people around our local area thatare in need. My overall goal was to conduct a children’s tennis camp and adult tennis tournamentto raise as much money as possible to donate to Must Ministries. This project was very enjoyableregardless of all the hard work and long hours I put in to it, due to the large amount of moneyand non perishable food items I raised. I overall chose this topic for my project to, in the end, help as many people as possible and I feel the camp and tournament was a great success ataccomplishing this objective. My intentions when choosing this topic for my senior project was to raise money whilealso having fun organizing an event and playing a sport that I love. Throughout my researchpaper on the topic of homeless people, I learned that a majority of us are so fortunate and we donot realize it. In Atlanta alone, there are currently anywhere from 24,000-34,000 homelesspeople wandering the streets every day. That being said, I wanted to try and make a differenceone step at a time, while also enjoying something myself and others have in common. My tenniscamp and tournament turned out to be very successful in the end and very inspiring as well, witnessing what some people are willing to do to help others. More than enough people attendedthe camp and donated different goods for the benefit of other people. I am very proud of myselfand everyone that helped support me in my goal to raise money for people in need. Overall, my senior project and the process that went along with it taught me many lifelessons relating to my future and the career I want to pursue. This project helped me realize that Iwant to find a job where I can use my organization skills and my outgoing personality to myadvantage and to help me keep a strong work ethic one day. I decided throughout the process ofthis project that I would love to work in advertising or marketing, working for a popular businessor become a professional planner due to the amount of planning I spent putting the tennis campand tournament together. I thoroughly enjoy organizing events and/or activities that my friendsand I attend and this project definitely confirmed my career choice that I am excited to pursue inthe future. After I go to college and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business, I will find asuccessful advertising job and I will feel even more comfortable now that I have had experiencefrom this project. In my opinion, I have mixed feelings associated with the senior project, good and bad. This project, in a positive light, has helped me in many ways such as helping me choose a career

I think the speech presentation and preparing the speech is teaching manyimportant skills, including how to prepare for an important speech and/or work hard on a projectand have the ability to present ones ideas. On the other hand, I do think many of the requirementsfor this project are farfetched and unnecessary. I feel that many of us can and would, in fact, complete the project very successfully without writing the research paper, without two visuals, and without a minimum number of hours spent with the facilitator. Overall though, I do think itbenefitted me due to there being more pros than cons and I am proud of myself for all the hardwork I have put into it. Thank you for your time.Sincerely,Kathryn Hunter
