This is a recommendation letter for Kartheek Dodbasappa Shanmukhappa, graduate student at the
University of Texas at Arlington. Kartheek worked a student internship for APG International Inc.
between August and December 2015 from the job-site office at the Hudson Lights construction project
at Fort Lee, New Jersey, Kartheek worked under my direct supervision. APG International is a union
glazing contractor specializing in the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of building facades
of unique commercial/institutional construction projects.
At the Hudson Lights project, APGI’s composite office / field labor team on-site grew from 30+ to 80+
during Kartheek’s internship period; Kartheek was able to gain the respect of the office staff and union
labor alike. The Hudson Lights project is a mixed-use project on a 15-acre site consisting of 2 buildings
and over 1 million square feet of new construction. Kartheek’s primary responsibilities included
production of detailed daily logs, installation productivity reports to the company owners, coordination
of field deliveries, tracking back charges to suppliers and field verification of dimensions for material
orders. He was enthusiastic from day one (staying for 13-hours on his first day of internship) and
remained intellectually curious about all facets of construction despite the often tense and pressure
filled work environment, it was regrettable that due to the contentious/tedious stage of the Hudson
Lights project that we were not able to share more of the management side of the business with him.
Kartheek pursued all tasks methodically, both the complex and the monotonous, with a steadfast
positive approach, he has the aptitude to be an asset of any established team environment.
