Photo Analysis
Photo 1:
1. In the picture it seems to be mothers and grandmothers cooking a meal.
2. They are preparing to eat in this situation. They are all around the stove and there are several
pots and pans out.
3. The message seems to say that women cook the means or that women belong in the kitchen.
4. This is important to history because this is how women were looked at years ago. Many
believed that women belonged in the kitchen
5. We wonder what they are cooking and how long ago was the photo taken, also where it was
taken.
6. The caption would be “Women Serving Men”
7. To figure out more about the photo we could google wooden stoves and how old it is and when
coca cola was first founded and the different designs they had over the years.
8. The three things we inferred included:
a) A man being served by one of the women
b) Electric blender is being plugged into ceiling
c) No fridge so things had to done the morning before

1. Hitler is in the picture with a toddler and four women
2. Hitler is shaking the toddlers hand and smiling
3. The picture is trying to imply that Hitler is a nice person.
4. This is important to history because he is known as a terrible person and a murderer.
5. Some of the questions we had were are the people in the picture really happy or afraid of him
and what was he saying to the toddler.
6. Caption could be “Hitler Befriending Child”
7. To find more information we could find out when Hitler made public appearances and when
the specific clothes in the picture were popular
8. Three things we may infer from the photo include:
a. They are at a restaurant because of the food in the back
b. Hitler is smiling which is weird and suspect
c. The women are smiling which suggest they support and/or like him
and they may not be aware of what he does/did.

1. In the photo there are police officers with their dogs and there are African
Americans.
2. It is an African American protest and the police are trying to stop them with dogs.
3. The photo is trying to imply that African Americans were doing something wrong
according to them and they wanted them to stop so they tried to stop them
violently with dogs.
4. This is important to history because they are showing what African Americans
had to endure to get equal rights.
5. Some questions we had were what were they protesting and why did the police
want to stop them.
6. “Police Breaking up protest”
7. To find more information we could look up civil rights protest and the tactics that
police used to violently stop them.
8. Three things we can infer from the photo include:
a. There was a protest
b. It turned violent due to the dogs
c. It is obviously racism going on in this photo

1. In this photo there is a dead person hanging from the statue of liberty.
2. It is a man hanging from the statue of liberty.
3. The photo is implying that even though America is supposed to be the land of the free.
People are still treated bad and killed due to differences, these things may include race
and gender.
4. This is important to history because it symbols social status.
5. Some questions we had were who edited and made the picture also where was it initially
posted and for what reason was it created.
6. “Is America really the land of the free?”
7. To find more information on the photo we could look up who created it and see what
their reasoning is behind it.
8. Three things we can infer from this photo include:
a. There is racism during this time
b. Is an old picture
c. People come to America expecting freedom but some don’t get it.

1. In this photo there is an immigrant family. (Mother, son and Father)
2. They are looking at the statue of liberty
3. 3. This photo is implying that they are new to America and the statue is symbolizing
freedom.
4. This is important to history because it was hard for immigrants to come to America and
when they did they hoped for a better life with freedom.
5. Some questions we had were how did coming to America turn out for them and why did
they come to America.

7. To find more information about the picture we could look up immigration rates for
people in the middle east in around the 1920s-1930s
8. Three things we can infer about this picture are:
a. They are immigrants
b. They are new to America
c. They seem optimistic about a new free life

1. In this photo there are Nazi soldiers and citizens.
2. They are checking the eye color of the men.
3. This photo is implying that they are separating the men based on physical features
4. This is important because this is showing the procedures they soldiers went through to
see if the men were Jewish or not.

a. What year was this
b. What was the reasoning behind this
6. “Nazi inspecting for Jews”
7. To find more information we could look up the criteria the Nazis used to identify a
person as Jewish
8. Three things we can infer about this photo are:
a. They are being examined
b. This is in the 1930s
c. This was the beginning of the holocaust
