Arts assignment

1. Dance is something that I have always
admired. The creativity, thought process and
time that is incorporated into each body
movement amazes me. Below the age of 5, I
participated in a variety of dance forms such
as Tap, Jaz and hip-hop. During Highschool I
”experienced” (Ryan & Healy, 2000, p.86) the
compulsory dance units during health class
and chose dance as an elective in year 10. Due
to my upbringing with sports, I stayed fit and
flexible enabling me to perform the dance
moves needed. Our dance class even
auditioned for School Spectacular. The
knowledge from these dance experiences have
placed me in the “analysing” and ”applying”
areas of the table (Ryan & Healy, 2000, p.86).
It taught me the foundation of movement,
space, time and choreography. This is
identified throughout the table as during
choreography we would have to discuss and
“identify designs of meaning in different ways
for different effects” (Ryan & Healy, 2000,
p.86) as well as learning dance steps and
sequences which is used to make dramatic
effects. However, from my experience with
dance, I now prefer to be the one watching the
performance and enjoying the emotion and

Drama is an area that I have very little experience in. During my school years I did not watch
nor participate in any kind of play’s or do a drama class. As I have grown older, I have found
a liking towards the musical genre and will be attending my first show production in July
called “ Moulin Rouge.” The table describes “aspects of the arts that penetrate everyday
lives” (Ryan & Healy, 2000, p.86), is incorporated during my work as an Early Childhood
Educator. Drama is great way to experiment and explore relationships, scenarios,
communication and language skills in young children. Due to my knowledge of Drama
forming from children, I am placed in-between “Experiencing the known” and “experiencing
the new”. (Ryan & Healy, 2000, p.86)
Visual arts is something I use to enjoy
doing. It is a media that allowed me to
express my internal self in an external
way. As seen in Artwork 1, I had
attempted an acrylic painting using the
fires as a stimulus. The urban contrast
to the sky demonstrates the dry and
dead land that were affected. Artwork 2
demonstrates a lighter form of art.
Using markers, I doodled on
whiteboards during my high school
years to pass time. This would be often
seen throughout my books as well.
These drawings allowed me to make
mistakes and enjoy the outcome
however it looked. My knowledge of art
strays from school, street art and
excursions. I do believe my knowledge
could be furthered and place myself on
the table under “experiencing” and
“conceptualising”. (Ryan & Healy,
2000, p.86) . Photography is another
form of
visual arts that allow me to capture the
beauty of the world. I generally
photograph sunsets and flowers. In the
attached photo of my tattoo, was a rose
I had photographed. Since leaving high
school in 2017 I
no longer doddle, draw or paint
and have chosen to enjoy the
artwork created by others.

All through Primary school and parts of High School, I participated in choir events and
community involvement such as singing at nursery homes. In year 5 and 6, our choir teacher
incorporated ukuleles into song’s and taught us basic chords. For 2 years we would get together
once a week during our lunch time to practice and expand our skills to “identify tempo and
lyrics” (Ryan & Healy, 2000, p.86). During High school years I self taught myself keyboard and
was told by both schools I attended that I should pursue my talent further. However, I chose to
keep teaching myself at home and would watch video tutorials so that I could “produce
recognisable” (Ryan & Healy, 2000, p.86) songs note for note. When I found myself with a full-
time job, I settled on appreciating the work of others instead. Music has and always will be in
every aspect of my life. I remember every Saturday morning waking up to “rage” being played on
the tv and feel privileged to of been apart of the last generation to experience cassette taps and
Walkman’s. Growing up I have thoroughly enjoyed attending concerts and been lucky to of seen
a variety of genre such as: ‘P!nk’, ‘Post Malone’, ‘Adele’, ‘Ed Sheeran’ and ‘Panic! at the disco’.

Arts involving technology and media is something that is
largely
apart of my everyday life. I am somebody who drives to
make
things look aesthetically pleasing whether it is myself or my
surroundings. This applies for my social media accounts and
anything I post. Being able to “ Manipulate materials in unorthodox ways” (Ryan &
Healy, 200, p.86) has given me the ability to be placed in the “applying” category on
the table. (Ryan & Healy, 200, p.86). In the past as seen in the photo to the left, I
helped in a classroom production back in primary school for an “Under the sea”
competition. We created a Cinemograph video which required us to manipulate and
move props slightly around with each photo taken. Below is the link to the product
which still to this day amazes me that something so small and basic requires time, effort
and work. Apart of Media Arts which I also thoroughly enjoy is photography, as
mentioned in Visual Arts I enjoy taking images of natural elements such as sunrises and
flowers. To do this I use my phone, and spend time researching and developing my
skills to produce better images and to edit and manipulate them before posting or
sharing.
