Condition
necessary
for
combustio
n
The chemical process in
which a substance reacts
with oxygen to produce
heat is called combustion.
 The substance
which undergoes
combustion is
called combustible
substance. It is also
called fuel.
 Air is necessary for
combustion
The condition necessary
for combustion are:
1. Fuel
2. Air(to supple
oxygen)

What is the
term
‘combustion’?
Which type of
condition is
necessary for
combustion?
Types of
combustio
n
1.Rapid
combustio
n
2.Spontan

combustio
n
3. Heat(to raise the
temperature
beyond the ignition
temperature)
There are three main
types of combustion.
1. Rapid combustion
2. Spontaneous
combustion
3. explosion
Rapid combustion is
combustion in which a
substance burns rapidly
and produces heat and
light with the help of
external heat.
Spontaneous combustion
is combustion in which a
substance burns
spontaneously and
produces heat and light
without the help of

external heat.
Explosion is a
combustion in which a
substance burns suddenly
and produces heat, light
and sound with the help
of heat or pressure.
We can control fire by
followings methods:
1. By using water
2. By using carbon
dioxide(Fire
extinguisher)
Flame is the zone of
combustion of a
combustible substance.

How do we
control fire?
Define flame
Evaluation;-
Q1. What is Combustion?
Q2.What is the types of combustion?
Q3.Which type of condition is necessary for combustion?
Q4.How do we control fire?
Q5.Define flame and describe its structure.
