2. In this opening sequence we see a young lady
jogging through the woods, who we later learn
is an FBI agent (Jodie Foster) who is put on a
case to catch a serial killer who kills his victims
She then reaches the police station where she
sees pictures of the skinned victims placed on
the wall
3. The lighting of this opening scene is very low
key, creating a tense atmosphere, this is typical
of a thriller because usually the director doesn’t
want to mislead the audience into thinking that
the film is light-hearted.
4. The film begins in a misty woods, this creates
an uneasy atmosphere and plunges the film
into mystery instantly
The trees are tall and eerie, so that the audience
knows this will be a thriller
The main character is also sweating and looks
dirty, this makes the audience feel slightly
uncomfortable
5. The font of the title card which appears is very
large and is in black, this choice of black font
adds to the thriller element because if it was a
light colour such as blue the film opening
would rub us a different way
