2. Building Healthy Relationships
PDHPE helps us form and build relationships
with our friends, teachers, parents and most
importantly with ourselves.
Unlike other subject areas, PDHPE allows us
to learn in several different ways. We learn
through texts, through sound/voice, visually,
physically, personally, and socially.
3. Let us Keep an Active Lifestyle
It is also really important for schools to teach
PDHPE as it ensures students maintain an
active lifestyle.
Overall, there has been a steady decrease
in physical activity for children for over a
decade, meaning that PE is more important
than ever in schools. Children need to
understand the benefits of physical activity
at an early age so they can grow and live
happy/healthy lives.
4. Growth and Development
PDHPE is the only subject area in primary
school where students learn about valuable
information on growth and development.
‘Growth and development’ focuses on
mental and body developments, which is
important for students to understand before
they reach puberty.
‘Growth and Development’ also helps
students gain greater sense of self, and build
identity.
5. Stay Safe and Make the Right Health
Choices
PDHPE teaches us about safety and staying
safe ourselves within and outside of school.
It makes us think about staying safe in the
playground, in the classroom, on the road,
and around other people.
PDH also teaches us about making the right
health choices, such as eating healthy,
taking responsibility for your own decisions,
and identifying unsafe environments and
drug use.
6. Why PDHPE?
Having highlighted several key areas in the
PDHPE subject, it is obvious that PDHPE is one of
the most important units in Primary (and
Secondary) schooling.
If PDHPE was not part of the school curriculum
children likely would not have the required
knowledge, understanding, and practice of
developing into healthy adults. (PDHPE helps
make us happy, healthy and unique people).
We need to keep PDHPE a big part in education
for the benefit of ourselves and for future
generations.
